Tengu's great adventures

Hello all!

So, now my BD is 16 months old and she is at 42cm long and 355g. We believe she is fully grown and would like some advice on feeding.

Currently she gets fresh salad every day and 20 L size crickets once a day. Should we now start decreasing the amount of crickets? She LOVES them of course and salad is like a "Do I have to eat it?"

So any advice at the age she is at etc?

Thank you in advance

Yes, his dog Bella has moved in during the week. She's such a good dog, a small dog mix, 6 years old. I took her out for a short walk this am so she's now set until Eric gets home to take her for a longer walk. It's working out but he's starting his slobby routine with dishes. So will lay down the law to him. He has one rules, pick up after himself and he's not doing that 100% yet. But I'm glad he's here and that he's feeling safe. He's not very comfy on the loveseat couch, not long enough, so I bought a twin mattress, so he can actually sleep. He's used to a king sized bed, so this won't be that comfy either, but it's all I can offer for him to sleep on. My place is small, hard for 2 adults and a dog plus 5 dragons and 3 cresties (plus my leopard gecko that I get on Monday) to fit in well, but we're managing.

Awww, bright yellow, sounds beautiful! Glad she's enjoying herself. Cierra is now brumating, too, so is Nathaniel so I only have 3 to deal with, I miss them already!

So when Eric brought Bella over yesterday, he put Imp in his tank, which happened to be Nathaniel's. Poor Imp sure looked surprised to be in the wrong tank. Luckily I found him and transferred him back to his own home where he's feeling better now.

So that's all the news. Will be glad to be done with this week at work, soon will be done with my every Monday off vacation time, it'll be every 2nd Monday after next week....sigh....

A dog as well now!!!! Wow!

Glad it's going well though. Poor Imp LOL LMAO I bet he thought WTF ahahahahahahahahahhahaha

Princess sure is yellow at the moment. Bright yellow it's so lovely!!! She's still not eating and not salad either. I remember last year she did the same but didn't actually brumate. She drinks water and has her calcium so she okay. 604g before her not eating business so she will be fine. Vet for check ASAP so I can relax about it.

She is having a lot of fun and it's so nice to have her lay on me as I stroak her. Awwwwwww I will have to do that again before her bed time :)

Yellow girl will go to the vet today. This morning she did her business on her carpet and it was chalky :( also on her outside seat she did her number 1 and some white stuff so something is going on. Also she is sleeping a lot but not commiting to it. It's like semi brumation!!! Still not eating as well.

Sooooooooooo yellow though!!!! I will see what the vet says.

Roaches are populating like crazy!!! I did ask you but maybe you missed it. Is there any point I take the babies out?

So I said this on beardie er but basically she is too fat and her liver is fatty so her poop is slow to come out so she basically threw up her poop. She had an ultrasound, X Ray and something else. No parasites, no blood etc which is great but now she is not allowed out of tank for two weeks no dubia for two weeks, meds and water only for a week and then a huge cut down in dubia after another check in two weeks. Poor girl :( feel so bad about it.

Oh and it's her sexual excitement time and her egg things were fine so that was good to know.

She had the blackest beard after it!!!!

Just watched the vidio, it's hilarious!

So new plans: my grandkids are coming to live with Eric and I from today until Monday after Eric gets home from work. I have the day off, so can take care of them while he's at work. This will be interesting but until Eric is at work, he's in charge of the kids. I just play with them as a grandmother should! So this is to happen every weekend so Tara has time off. She also got a part-time job, which will come in very handy. So we get the kids on the weekend, Sat am, maybe even Fri eve, Sat, Sun until after supper. Then they're off home again. I'm really glad this happened, now they will get to know Daddy without Mom's influence and starting fights.

So Eric still has alot to do and he likes that he's living here and that I'm willing to help. I'll have my grandkids to myself for every weekend, we'll finally get to know each other. Leo likes to help clean and move stuff, so he can organize the living room for the 3 of them camping out. Eric's getting as much of their bedding as he can. So should be fun and different. There is a huge park across the street, so I can take them there some time, too.

All in all this has been a good experience, getting to know my grown son again, living with my grandkids on the weekend and don't forget Bella, my grandpuppy, she's my love, along with my family and reptiles, of course

Pictures later, I already have alot from my d-i-l, she emails them to Eric, I copy them to pictures and send them out to the family, which is what I did this morning. I'll download them later when I'm back from the chiro.

I somehow missed that Tengu got so sick and had to go to the vet. No sure how that happened either. Yes, it's not unusual for dragons to get fatty liver disease. So one thing you need to look for, to give her daily, is milk thistle. If you can find liquid, it's easier to give her the right dose. I was giving Leo .3 ml twice a day of the liquid and he was just over 600g. But if you can find only capsules, I'd say 1/3 capsule, mixed with water, twice daily. Just take the capsule apart, divide what's there into 3 parts, mix 1 part with some water and feed her by syringe, or even mix it with 100% juice and water, 1 part juice to 3 parts water. If you look milk thistle up, it's to help reduce fat in the liver and help the liver to function properly again and detoxify. And yes, it's going to be hard, the having her in her tank for 2 weeks. I don't see why you can't have her in sunshine, though. I don't think it's the dubia, I think it's the honey worms she was eating for awhile. If they're like our superworms, that's what caused it in Leo. Roaches and bok choy were was got his liver normal again. But best do what the vet says. She does have to reduce in weight, I had to do that to Leo, too. He's the only one that has ever had issues with their liver and the rest eat worms as staples, even though I did buy roaches and have a bunch now.

And as for roach babies, I leave them with their parents, who are very protective of their babies. They also eat the poop from the adults, so I don't clean out the tank regularly, only put in more food, clear out old food, but only clean out the full tanks twice a year & sometimes not even that.

So it's been crazy with the grandkids. I'm finding Safara very difficult to handle. And the two of them are, of course, very curious and into everything. Eric and I spend alot of time "helping" them clean up. Safara is very spoiled, which is Eric's fault, he hardly put her down the first 9 mo of her life. She also likes to scream, which I could hear tonight when I went out, right to the elevators. So the two babies are sleeping with Eric in the living room, he has quite the time getting them to sleep. I'm much firmer to them without the frustration that he feels with the whole situation that is going on. His ex Tara constantly fights with him and vents that everything is his fault! She is awful and I'm hoping he won't listen anymore and just leave. So having the kids here until Monday after his work was her idea. I told him I'm not giving any more of my Mondays to kid care, they can come over Friday night and say until Sunday, then home after supper, period. He needs his sleep and he's not getting any with the kids here. This is all new to them, too, she decided on Friday that he should bring the kids here, so we didn't even have time to prepare.

I knew this would happen at some point, they're totally ill suited, but moms can't tell their grown kids what to do. I know some do, but I've never been that kind of mom, let him sink or swim, is how I look at it. I'm just glad he left her, even if it's taken away my weekends for the forseeable future, can you tell I love my son? But have to be careful that I don't do anything for him, food wise and that I put my foot down about weekend parenthood. So he has a long way to go and they haven't even done a separation agreement yet.

I love my grandkids but didn't expect to have them for 3 days in such a small apartment. Eric and I will figure something out.

So you and Tengu go back to the vet in 2 weeks? Give her a bit snuggle from us, k? Can't you have her out of the tank at all? How is she to get exercise, like she does?

Well for now a Tengu mail.

She's freaking me out :,(

Vet have liquid for her liver and general get back to health which she has four drops a day of and NO WAY will she have the 100% veg juice so in really worried about her.

She's drinking water and I just have her a bath to see if any more poop will come out which it didn't. She hasn't eaten for a week now and to top it all off she's sleeping most of the day. It all sounds very brumation but not commiting to it so it's two very complex things at the same time :(

Just now I thought that's it and turned lights off and put cover over to see what she does.

One side is on regulated at 23

Oh and she will not open her mouth for liquid. It's TIGHT shut and FREAKS out of I try and open. It's all just stressing her out and such a black beard :( and shoulders.

:( :( :( :( :( :(

I'm not surprised that she's pissed off, but she can't sleep when she's sick. She has to be cured first or she could die while sleeping, if her liver is malfunctioning.

Remember how she's take water from you? Add the 4 drops to the water and give it to her as usual. It probably tastes really bad. You need to call your vet about this issue and that she won't take her medicine. Ask if you can add apple juice with water and see if she'll take the medicine that way.

I don't know why she's not allowed to eat, she needs something, even if she doesn't get bugs, she should be able to have her salads, full of roughage, which helps move her digestive system along. I'm sorry you're having to put up with all this, David, I with I was there because I'm an expert at syringes, there is not a dragon yet I haven't been able to get meds down their throats.

I wish you luck, but you need to talk to the vet about her wanting to brumate. Tell them she's very dark because she's very uncomfortable and angry and doesn't know what's happening to her. Poor sweet dragon.

Also ask the vet is she can get some outside sunshine, best medicine. She also needs to be taking a strong probiotic, that will also help with the liver. Serrepetase is a good pain killer if you think she's in pain, not sure if you can buy it in liquid but you can find it in capsule at the health food shop, give her 1/3 capsule a day with her water. But then it's easy for me to tell you this when you've never had to deal with anything like this before. It's overwhelming when they're sick, but she can't sleep, except at night. Then you can cover her up but just for the night or don't cover her at all, then she's got to bask and she needs some food, too. Let me know how it all goes. If the vet has an issue with her eating, tell him the greens will do her good, help pass anything and help the liver, too.

Please keep me updated and I'll help you as much as I can.

The problem is she is too dam clever

I added drops to water sing the same syringe and she freaked when she tasted it and went black as black gets and refused anymore.

I can get her to take meds but wow it stresses her out and veg juice... forget it.

I offer salad and nope, roach, nope silk worms tomorrow and if no we will have to go back to the vet. It is all very sad because I just don't know what to do. She refuses everything and stresses out so much when I am trying to help her.

I put lights back on and she hasn't moved at all since I put them out and now with her eyes half open.

Vet said it is too hot to take her outside and then back into a cold air con room. I can understand that but if back in tank its not cold.

I am so confused now. Don't know where this has come from at all.

I mean she had xray, ultrasonic, ultrasound and samples checked and no problems, parasites and its sexual excitement time so her eggs were fine as well. I mean there is nothing wrong apart from being overweight aka fatty liver. Past two days though she is just standing still with eyes closed most of the day   she had a run around in her tank this am but that was it. I will try silk worms tomorrow and salad and as I said if she doesn't eat anything its back to the vet.

Thank you for your help!

Update

So I gave her another bath for 30 minutes changing the water to keep its warm temp and massaged her bally for 15-20 minutes. She seemed to enjoy it and at one point she was going to poop but didn't. Took her out and let her lay in the towel as I stroked her for 20 ish minutes. Bright yellow and black went away. Now she is in her tank standing up on her basking rock basking away. Normal so to speak so its nice.

Have to give drops again very shortly which I don't really want to do but I have to. I may ask the vet if he has something he can give which will work long term. If she poops and eats some veg or silk worms tomorrow I will be super happy about it.

I wonder what is their favorite thing. I know all are different but wow she is fussy!!!! Strawberries nope, blueberries... nope etc When she doesn't want to eat, she wont!

Her routine has been changed so she's upset, and those drops must be awful. Have you ever fed her baby food? I'm wondering if you get some butternut squash baby food, or sweet potato, put some in a syringe, small amount, add the drops to the syringe, add more baby food. Do you think that would help? So over here I make a mix and that's what I'd add the 4 drops to, but I can understand whys she's been stubborn. I'll wish you luck, keep me posted on how she's doing. When does the doctor do blood tests again?

Haven't tried baby food but I will if she wont eat.

This morning was meds and juice mixed and she was not happy about mouth open and syringe (last night she must of been sleepy) so she bit the end of the syringe!! Such a tight grip it was crazy but it made it very easy to just administer the juice :)

I really hate doing this to her but I have to. Afterwards I hugged her for about 20 minutes and she loved that. She does seem to enjoy me holding her lately, must be the not feeling well or something.

Give her 30 minutes or so to warm up and then bath time. Have to get that poop out. I massage under her leg/hip area by the flap

So still no poop. Big bath and massage etc. I went on a MAN mission to find prune juice...... now you may laugh at that and think prune juice? Get it anywhere YOU WOULD THINK SO!!!!!!!!!! WOW not here, if it doesn't sell well, they don't sell it end of story. You have to go to specialist shop to get Heinz baked beans!!!!!!!

So after three chemists, 4 supermarkets I find it! TINY little carton of it which is handy actaully and as most if not all beardies love prune juice I thought great this will get things moving quickly........... Princess would not and I repeat NO WAY open up for it!!! She must be the only beardie that doesnt like it. So I put it in the side of her gum where I know some will go in some will drip out but she only needs a little so.........

I will wait an hour and then another bath as it will of been 2.5 hours.

I'm wondering because she hasn't eaten if she doesn't have anything but I saw her try last night so I am not giving up.

Poor girl :(
