Scales won't change?

Usually when Binx is basking under his light his scales get darker but this last time his scales were blotchy? It's hard to explain but I'll put a picture(below). I just want to know if he's okay or if I should be worried?

What kind of basking light are you using?
How close is he to the basking light?
What is the temperature in his basking spot?

I don't trust those dial type thermometers, they say they can be off by 20 degrees or so up or down. I use the digital ones in Peaches' tank. He looks to be an older bd and they don't require a lot of heat for basking like juvies do. Hottest point in ours is 100° f and the cool end is 80°.

From the picture it looks as if he is either getting ready to shed or has gotten to hot, I could be wrong. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will come along soon.

I just got a brand new light, it's the zoo med repti basking spot lamp. He probably got too hot, honestly. I noticed that he got really close to the light at one point so I moved him and the branch he was sitting on so it wasn't too close (I originally had it to almost the top and he seemed to be too big to reach it but I guess he found a way) so he was pretty close to the light (about six inches). He's less than a year old (September he will be about a year) and he just shed his back (two ish weeks ago) Would he be in pain from this? And if so what should I do to help him feel better?

I prefer to keep mine from getting any closer than 10 inches from the light. Since he has just shed, I would say yes, he is not going to be very comfortable with this. As for what to do to help him get through this, I'm not sure. I sure hope he gets better soon, he is such a handsome critter.

Thank you for the compliment! And I'll move everything so he can't get any closer than ten inches like you said. I think for right now I'll put a mixture of natural honey and aloe on him and see if it gets better in a few days. Thank you so much for your help!

He's doing much better! All the discoloration is gone and he's not acting uncomfortable or anything! Thanks for your concern :3

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
