Puffing Beard

My beardie is lying on his log and just started to puff his beard but it did not turn black. What does that mean?

Is he perhaps shedding? They will do this during their sheds to help loosen the old skin from the new skin by stretching out their gullet. If he is not shedding then perhaps he is too young to black beard and just practicing his manliness? Or got scared/upset?
Do you have a thread for you dragon yet?

My girl ( from what I can tell) has been doing a lot of puffing up her beard when I have her out. I think she is just learning she can do it and does, no black beard, just puffing it up. I think its kind of cute to watch them learn they can do someting, she is 9 months old

Just make a thread and talk about your dragon in it. I was thinking it may be easier for you to keep track as it is for me. :wink:

Was the shed around the gullet area?

He was shedding on his legs. I gave him a bath and a few large pieces fell off.

I changed the substrate in his tank with larger tiles so it's easier to clean and once I put him back in the tank, he's been in the same spot, on his log for about 12 hours now. I'll try to send a pic when I figure how to download a pic from the iPad. His body is flat and wide- is he ok?

from the 'flat and wide' does he sort of look roundish? almost like a pancake?
if it is thats natural beardies 'pancake' to make their bodies have a larger surface area to volume ratio, and allows him to warm up faster.
were abouts is the beardie in the cage, is he/she under their basking lamp, uvb tube, etc
