i've been reading through the thread over the past few days, love the pics!! when my husband saw Buddy and i said he was a "free roaming" snapping turtle with an identity issue it was almost a code brown if you know what i mean...

speaking of Buddy being free roaming, how does that work?? i've never owned a turtle before but i'm getting a tortoise and i know that tortoises need basking spots and i just wasn't sure how that works...it must be fun though.

Buddy's my first turtle; after much researching on 'normal' turtle behavior, I came to the conclusion that the only turtle characteristic he exhibited was . . . oh wait, he doesn't have any :roll:
When he's free roaming, there are only a few places that he goes to: 1) on the couch, 2) in my bedroom, and 3) down the stairs (that's a boo-boo from not watching where he's walking). When he's out-n-about, Zim (my husky) doesn't even pay him no mind. The only times Zim would mind is when Buddy's on his bed or near his bone. Other than that, Zim couldn't care less.
Believe it or not, he doesn't like the basking light/heat. Not sure why, but he likes it on the cool side :roll:. But I still force UV/heat on him and he'd get so upset that he'd sulk in the corner.

I don't think it's nice though Gina, to try and make me feel bad about no new comics

Can a beardie disown it's godparent? Hmm... I'll have to look into that one! :twisted:

Hey, somebody's got to do it, and since you're ignoring all the threats and beggings on Bliggy's threads, I took it upon myself to do it on one of mine. :mrgreen:

I just read this entire thread, and I have to say that those two are absolutely precious together. They are the oddest couple I've seen, but oh so cute to watch!

that's cool though. i guess you could also have a spot out somewhere and leave it on during the day to be used whenever. we're getting our tortoise tomorrow and he'll only get to be 8in in total length. i love seeing what is going on with your guys...my husband just shakes his head at me when i show him the pics. buddy has the sweetest face and pookie is adorable. and seeing them together is priceless! keep up the good work!!

Wow, Buddy sure is big! and that he and Pookie get along and play together is unique and wonderful. Way to go Gina. Who would have thought you could turn a turtle into a sort of beardie! Too cute and it must feel wonderful to have a snapper that's mellow and cuddly!

I really enjoyed the pics, so please don't stop. I've realized that other comic strips don't come out as regularly as usual :mrgreen: , no names!

Pookie sure looks well, got over his brumation well, too. Is he eating? Our gang is in the not eating alot mode, I'm hoping it will pass, we getting warm overcast weather, no sun yet.

Wow, Buddy sure is big!

He sure is, all 909 grams of muscle :laughing6: (got weighed last night at the vet's)


My poor baby has an eye infection. After waking him up, he'd always rubbed his eyes with the back of his hands, and every now and then he'd scratch his upper eyelid. Well, this time, he rubbed and rubbed to the point of being raw, and it hasn't healed in over a week. I originally made an appt for him last Saturday, but due to the snow storm that we got, they closed the office and cancelled the appt. I was able to squeeze him in last night and sure enough, his eye has a slight infection but not too bad. I have to administer drops into both eyes (for precaution) 3 times a day. Last night's drops weren't so bad; no reactions. This morning, however, was a tad different -- he flinched and closed his left eye real tight when the drops went in. Guess it stung a bit


I will have a few new pics of Pookie to post. He was so cute last night, sleeping snuggled up to his new friend, Henry the Hippo.

Gina... that's too bad about poor Buddy's eye I hope the drops help and it heals fast.

Surprisingly, he took it very well. He didn't even run away from me or give me stink eyes.
Thank goodness he's such a mush mouse.

The vet said that Buddy should start to heal in 2-3 days, and should be A-ok in a week. If not, then he'll have to get antibiotic shots. Yuck!

And Yes, Pookie pics would be nice :mrgreen:

Gina: Pookie, it looks like Dawn is still neglecting her comic duties. And that makes me angry. You're the closest thing to me right now... Well your toes are getting a little long and dull, maybe they could use some sharpening :twisted:

The sharpener is there because I keep the pencils/pens close by, and instead of searching for it elsewhere, it's only an arm's reach away :wink:

Well, since Pookie already is a standin for Bligg, and Buddy for Timmy . . . maybe Dawn won't notice that her comic strip wasn't updated by the main actors. :idea:



Update: Pookie really took a liking to Henry the Hippo. He never moved since last night, even with the lights on all day. He was awake, but just didn't move. Hmmm, could he finally had outgrown Mr. Bear and moved on to a more size appropriate best buddy?? Does this mean my baby is all grown up??
