One of my little babies has a nipped tail and a nipped toe. Should I trim off the mangled and "dead" tissue with a scalpel and what should I use to clean the wound?

Sorry about your little guy's nips. I don't believe you should cut the dead tissue off yourself. You may actually cut into live tissue. Do you have a vet you could take your beardie to?

In the mean time what you need to do is keep the area's clean as to not get infection. Make up a Betadine and water solution to soak the beardie in. The solution should resemble that of weak tea. Once you have soaked him for a good 15-20 minutes. Pat dry the area with a clean cloth and put some Neosporin on the affected areas.

Do you have your beardie housed with another beardie? If so, please separate them asap! I'm sure you do not want this to happen again.

Please try to get him into a vet as soon as you can.

Keep us posted on your beardies condition and Good luck!

All of the babies are separated. I have been soaking the little guy in the solution. Will the damaged body parts fall off on their own? We live in a rural area so a vet that deals with "exotics" is hard to find. If it is needed however, I will take it to the vet for sure. Does it hurt the baby if it drinks the solution?

Honestly, I don't know if the dead tissue falls off or not. I will try and get a mod to answer that for you. I would not recommend your beardie drinking the Betadine solution. If your beardie is use to drinking in the bath, put fresh water in first and let him drink, then make up your solution for him to soak in.

Hi, sorry to hear about your baby. Could you please post a picture of the damaged tail so that we can have a look at it? It's hard for anyone to say if the bad part will just fall off or if there is the chance of it spreading further up the tail. A picture may be able to help us.

Also, as Dawn said, use just plain water first to see if he wants a drink. He shouldn't be drinking any of the Betadine solution.

Here are some pics. I feel so awful. I was gone for four days in Dallas ( 9 hours from where I live) and the babies were under someone else s care. I feel guilty for leaving them :( They do not know exactly how long he was hurt. I am definitely going to keep this little one as my own. I have been soaking him in the water and then dipping the injuries in the beta dine and then applying neosporin. I'm so worried.

The orangeish tint is just the beta dine.

Oh gee, those areas look necrotic and I think a vet appt would be the best thing to make sure the areas aren't spreading. Just to make sure, you're not putting the undiluted Betadine on the areas, right? If you are, you should be pouring some in the water instead and making the color look like weak tea, then soaking him in that water.

Hello JoMarie....How is your little guy doing? Have you been able to get him into a vet yet? Those affected areas look pretty serious and could use some professional attention. Please don't hold off on taking him in...it could spread as Diane said.

Please let us know how your beardie is doing.

Ok. I took "Garnet" to the vet today and she said that she does not want to operate because he is very small and putting him under anesthesia would be risky. She also said that the dead tissue should shed away with time and I should put this silver sulfadine cream on him. I think that is what its called lol. But my little baby is eating so well and is very active. I will just continue to monitor the injuries and make sure they do not get worse. They are looking better and better each day.

i have actually started to run into what looks very similar to what you are experiencing... the longest toe on both hined legs is starting to grow in a crooked fashion and starting to turn the same color as your beardies toes. also, the tail is starting to look the same as well... is the silver cream that you mention, is that over the counter... i feel really bad, i thought that it was due to bad shedding or that they were areas that have not been shedding at all, so i have been giving him baths in baby warm water and softly rubbing those areas and now i know why he didnt like that so much, it probably hurt him. Id love it if your could tell me where i could get the cream :?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
