Making a temporary door...

Just what it says... I bought a second hand viv today... Started cleaning it and ended up shattering one of the glass sliding doors. Does anyone have any suggestions for a suitable temporary door?

If you are seeking a temporary replacement, are you planning on replacing long term?

Lol! I'm totally gutted- I was soooo excited about it!!

It's only going to be for a few weeks- I can get a replacement (thankfully it's by a well known company and I sort of know someone on their staff) but the guy is on holiday!

I need something that's going to be easy to move quickly- Huff has MBD (he is totally unaware that this causes him problems) and has a habit of getting himself slightly stuck from time to time! If I can get the correct thickness of cardboard tho, that would work! I'm supposed to be selling his old viv (it was the only way hubby would agree to me getting the new one) but I can maybe put the buyer off for a couple weeks while I sort this one out!

I was going to recommend hard cardboard, but if you can't get that could you use maybe one of those large books, maybe even a baking sheet if you can't find anything.

Sorry I can't think of things off hand that one might have around the house that could work. Best bet is to probably roam the house and find something.

Ah, Brandon, iv had an idea... I have different sizes of 'glass' cutting boards- perhaps one of those might fit... Hmmm off to do some searching!!

SOOOOOOO I got in contact with the company that the viv was SUPPOSED to have been made by... turns out, it wasnt made by them at all!! So I was back at square one... eventually I tracked down the correct company. I left them several messages but apparently they dont deal with the public at all... I found their main stockist over here and called him... he basically told me to (well, words I cant type here!) because I didnt buy the viv from him so he doesnt really care. I have now found a glazier who will cut a piece of glass to fit and smooth the edges but it isnt toughened glass... just standard 6mm sheets of glass.... tis poop but I guess there isnt much I can do... I will just have to go with that and be SUPER careful!!!

EDIT - Would it be better to just use perspex instead?

Why didn't you just go with plexiglass?

I didn't know you were gonna try to get a permanent fix for it, or I would have recommended that. :?

home depot and lowes will cut plexi glass to any size. all my custom tanks have this

Haha.... I just edited that to ask about perspex - is that the same as plexiglass?

Brandon - I thought I had a permanent fix sorted originally !! GRRRRRR at people for giving me incorrect information about the origins of the viv!

Renee, we dont have home depot or lowes over here and the big DIY shops will only sell giant sheets of the stuff... im looking online now to try to figure out other options.

google plexiglass theyre a few companys you can buy whatever size you need and they ship it to you.
