I use lotion. I probably overkill it a bit to be honest, but My silkie has all 20 toes and all his tail. (knock on wood)
Think of it like a case of sunburn (skin-wise) The skin dries and cracks then sticks to the new skin. This happens everytime a silkie sheds. Unless moisturizer is applied. Just like a sunburn.......Keep in mind I am not saying the silkie is sunburned.

See I use lotion on my silkie helios, and the other day I soaked him in water then lotioned him and within a hour he was sheded to the point that my normal beardies get to in a couple of days ,so I was just wondering but I am going to keeplotioning him for two reasons one he enjoys it and just chills and to help him stay healthy and it helps us bond

i just have a normal beardie and if i dont put something on his toes while hes shedding it will get to the point of cutting off cirulation, he almost lost his foot one time. silkies are even more fragile so i would say yes to using lotion on them it doesnt seem to harm them so why not

I got shut down hardcore by another breeder when I mentioned using lotion for silkies, however after seeing several silkies at the recent SD reptile expo with what looked like retained shed (in one case SERIOUS retained shed), I'd think lotioning is a good idea. It couldn't hurt...so I don't see the harm in being a bit overprotective of a pet. Just use a good lotion, something natural if possible.
And look at it this way, when someone asks what you are doing you can say rubbing lotion on your lizard...

I agree , like I have said my silkie has shed his skin faster after lotioning then my other beardies have without it .and after seeing that I have started soaking and lotioning all my beardies when in shed and they all shed faster now so I am one to go on results and I am going to keep lotioning my lizard

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
