This is the story of how we got our two baby dragons. It all started when my daughter brought home a beardie the whole family fell in love with him. You know some teens get when they get moody *dont touch him hes my beardie* gah it hurt because everyone loved him and played with him fed him we all pitched in. She even go so moody one day she moved his viv to her room so no one could see or play with him. (girls and pms :roll: )So i made a thread http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=98235 * I want a BD for myself* i guess there was a few people who were in the same boat as me. Being a BD grandma is tuff! (She of course got over it and moved him back down stairs) I wanted to get one who might need a little more care or love thought first thing *rescue* I was checking cragelist daily not one bd post in the weeks i was looking. Then a breeder(DistDrag) posted on the thread letting me know he had 2 babys just hatched out that had small issues, one with a crooked tail and one with a leg that didnt work. They were the cutest things! I still had to get the ok from my hubby once he seen those pics he was hooked!! So he let me take them both! They were still way to young for me to get yet so we were happy to leave them with the breeder(DistDrag)till they were safe to travel. He kept us posted on how they were doing and posted updated pictures. The day came to where they were ready to be sent to us. Oh boy i was so excited i couldnt sleep and kept a eye out the window for them to get here! <-- that was me 10 fold lol I heard the UPS man drive up and i was out the door!

This is the one with the left foot that dosnt work(My hubbys) He/she dosnt have a name yet.

This is the one with the kink in the tail. I call her Roo short for Kangaroo.

Heres a comparison between Chimera and Roo.

They are both from the same clutch they are 1 month 1 week old and 6 1/2 inches long.

We will never let more than 1 of beardies to be out of their viv's at one time. Except for the 2 new babys just for a while so we can sit and watch tv with them to get them used to us. They both have their own vivs. I have to say ty to everyone! I have learned so much since i have joined! I dont think our babys would be as healthy as they are if it wasnt for all of you!

Oh that really made me giggle. You are such a softy. You'd have dragons up to the rafters if you had it your way!

And ohmigosh I see why you fell in love. What a stunning little boy.
And 14" at 3 months? Good lord what does DistDrag do to her dragons? Put them in fertiliser at night???
Miso is nearly 3 months and is only 10 inches. I do wish I could make her eat more bugs.

I shall start thinking of names!

I know even the girls are growing like weeds! 9 and 10 inches @ 10 weeks.This guy is only 2 inches shorter than Chimaira is at 8 months :shock: This is the last one I can get the hubby layed the law down after this guy NO MORE. Hes just worried because with me being disabled and all that I will over work myself. They are all worth it!! Zero's slave has taken 100% over his care witch helps me out alot. I just couldnt resist him! I need some of what he uses for Chimaira :laughhard: I lasted 6 whole days

What a handsome boy, as I always say, beardies are like pringles, just can't stop at 1...............How about "TANK"? Doesn't sound little boyish, does it, but he may be a big boy when he grows up........... that little tanker! :lol: :wink: (I don't know what possessed me to come up with that name) :dontknow:

We finished the viv today the glass will be here all set up on monday Tile Monday night and the baby will be here either tues or wed which ever is easier for DistDrag.

This is their new viv. pay no mind to the red light in the top one thats a trash bulb that came with Chimieras tank i'm using it to test temps so i know how high to make their basking point and it was the only 100w not in use.

I went out in the back yard and tried to Beardie proof it and make sure their was no holes around the bottom of the fence. I only have one spot i need to fix the back yard gate Just incase one gets out of the house.

I can't wait for them to be put in their new home on Tues. Then bye bye 10 gal tanks. I'll use them to breed my own crickets I'm thinking since they won't alow me to breed roaches

Oh Christy, those viv's look great, I'm so jealous, I mean happy for you :lol: :wink: ...........I've been wanting to do a viv overhaul, and can't do anything til I move to Colorado, (if I ever get there) Did you follow a pattern or just wing it? What size are they? It's so exciting to have it all compact. Congrats!

I am currently looking for good ideas to make a viv JUST LIKE YOURS!!!!! Is there space in between the vivs for wires and insulation? What type of material/wood did you make it out of? Did you make a frame first? Or just solid pieces of wood? Are there tracks in the wood for the glass panels? Are they sliding glass panels?

I know this is a lot of questions, but we will need to start "production" of our viv set up fairly soon, and we just want to make sure that we make it as safe and sturdy as possible. And I would guess that yours is!! Just looking for advice from people who have already made their "townhouse" vivs..to learn from their experience. Thank you so much! I hope to hear from you soon!!

BTW, nice looking beardies!! Any names decided for the new boy? I am getting my first beardie on Wednesday and he is a boy. The names I have come up with are ridiculous! I go to sleep dreaming of good names...and still nothing!! All the best to you!

bdgal, you can also use cabinets, old stand alone stereos ( the kind circa 1970's), deep book cases... or you can construct your own.

We tried to make it easy we used one piece for the back one piece for each side and then inserted the top and bottom then added the pieces to separate each of the vivs. There are no gaps inbetween vivs. We wired everything out the back. We used 2 big vents at the top of the vivs to make sure it had good ventilation. Viv 1 and 2 are 4x2x2 excatly and viv 3 is a half inch shorter than the other 2. We went to a glass shop and had them make us showcase style glass and rails to fit each viv. It was very costly but we didnt care about the cost to much as it was going to be in our living room and needed it to look nice. My dad built houses for a living so he new excatly how to make it and with what types of wood. When they talked about all this stuff all i herd was bleah bleah bleah lol Total cost of what it looks like right now without the glass and tile was $235 all came from home depot. Wood, light fixtures, vents and a power strip. The tile for the floor will be another $72. We need 24 tiles to fit and 12 of those will need to be cut and they charge .50 to cut each one for us. Plus we all had fun building it. It was a family project the kids helped too and had fun. We had aranged family get to gethers every weekend and I got to play with my new grandbaby the whole time too

No still no names for him yet. It takes me forever to think of one and the kids have been no help! They keep giving me goofy names or bad ones :shock:

Thanks for replying! We went to home depot today to get the necessary supplies (wood, etc) and it was RIDICULOUS!! We needed 2x4's for the frame....the crappy "builders wood" full of chips and knots and breaks and holes was 1.99 per piece. Then we went to the sanded nice smooth (no chips or holes) 2x4 and it was $9.99 per piece. It is retarded!! We ended up buying 4 of the expensive pieces that would be showing on the display....then used the crap stuff for the "hidden" insides. Crazy!!

Anyways, I hope mine turns out to look as nice as yours!!!

They really look great. How did you wire them through the back? Just curious. I really want to build my own but the way you did it makes it look easier and really nice.

We drilled a hole just behind the light so it goes out the back and made a hole big enough for the plug to go thru for the reptisuns fixture. We ran all the cords down the back and pluged them into the surge protecter. The viv is about 2 inches from the wall to give it good air flow.
