How hot is it there? Roaches love warm weather low to mid 90's. I know Las Vegas gets hotter then that, but as long as they aren't in direct sunlight they should be fine. Are you sure it's not something else killing them?

Yeah im from vegas too... the whole week has been 110 plus. even til freaking 8 in the evening. i have a cricket colony that i keep in my garage. its even heavily insulated but about half of them died this week. even with the insulation its at least 90.its hard to do out here and theres no way im keeping them in the house, way too noisy.

I did not change anything but the temps have been 110+ for about a week.
Whats the temp in your roach bin? Is is 110 in the bin? where is the bin stored? Do you keep the proper humidity on them? Have you cleaned the tank out recently? Did you use any chemicals? Have you used a new food source?

I feel for you. I lost my hisser colony not to the heat (which has been mid to upper 90s - I actually DID buy an air conditioner for my roaches, but they get the cool air indirectly from a blowing fan), but due to the 100% humidity. The dehumidifier kicked out so much heat, I couldn't run it and the a/c at the same time. I kept the temps down to normal, but got mold instead.

I did clean the tank out, could that have killed them? I keep the bin in the garage. I didnt check the temps in the bin. I use water crystals. Same food as I have been using..

More than likely it was because you kept them in your garage. That is like a trunk of a car. If it is 110 outside you can add a few degrees and thats what the garage is. So you basically cooked your roaches. Next time you setup a colony have them in a room out of the way somewere or a closet, but either way should be in your house where it is temperature controled.
