Oh, so sorry for the problem with Baytril.........honestly, if it were me, I would get some help, get a tight hold on him, and you give the injection.........it would be better to have a few seconds of discomfort than having to give him the icky Batril by mouth. I would think eating the Baytril and forcing him to take it would be more stressfull. I had to give 14 days of injection to Ollie, so I know it's not fun, but it was over and done in a second, then there was major cuddles.

My hubby tried to hold him but he just got so squirmy as if he knew what was coming and, as we can't really hold him too tightly it was just not working. He was hissing and puffing and seemed to be getting worked up :( he seems to have gotten over the icky taste now- I gave him a small piece of mint afterwards which I think helped take the taste away. If he has to have baytril over a prolonged period tho, I think we will just have to figure something out with the injections- Probably giving them at sleepy time as laura suggested! I did them before and it was, generally much quicker with less of an after effect!

Well, night 3, and Kazi went to sleep with no evidence of a black beard!!! YAY!! Hes not sound asleep but he is sleeping at least on and off. His beard calmed about an hour after the baytril and the mint leaf. He had a little drink in the bath and some soy yoghurt afterwards - I remembered that last time he was very sick and having the stress episodes, a little soy yoghurt in the evening seemed to help - since he had the yoghurt his beard has been nearly completely normal. He moved around a little more today and kept his head up for quite prolonged periods of time. I looked at his tummy this evening, when his beard had settled and he does have some stress marks - I havent seen him with stress marks since he was tiny!!

At bed time, he tried to climb back on to my hand... I felt terrible but I knew it would be better for him to get settled in his viv, on his blankie. I have night light on again - its keeping the viv at a pretty constant 80F - im wondering if that might be too hot tho, perhaps I should turn it off???

Hello Christine,

That is good news Kazi is looking better.
Be careful with the Baytril, because if he is still dehydrated, it can be very hard on the kidneys!
Are his fat pads looking better now?
Poor Kazi, I hope he is starting to feel better now. Keep us posted on him!
At least his black beard is gone!

Hi tracie- yes I was worried about the baytril with his dehydration but his fat pads were looking much better yesterday. He slept all night without the black beard. He has just got up so i'm just waiting to see how he is feeling this morning- at least he just has baths and critical care today. I have some photos I took yesterday which I will update with as soon as I can get on a computer!

Dear Christine,

My thoughts goes to your little beardie.
I was reading the first page in this thread, and jumped to the last one (this one), and to be honest, not much seems to have been happening as to regards of him black-bearding and being dehydrated etc...

I did not read through the 67 pages of this thread to look for this, but perhaps anyone already suggested a "lizard enema" ?
I am lucky that my darling beardie is doing just fine, I wouldn't cope with this for 2 years-something... :| :p

Best Regards!

Thanks for Reading...
Thankfully this is not something that has been going on for this whole time. He spent 6 months undergoing different treatments and was in good spirits throughout that. For the past year, he has been absolutely fine- it's just now that new issues have popped up. The pooping problems were resolved within weeks of his first illness, thankfully wihout any invasive treatments!

He has just began having issues again on Thursday past- poor wee man. This time it was all very very sudden and we aren't quite sure yet what is going on with him. But, he seems to be improving!
Thank you for your thoughts!
T

EDIT- Kazi did not have a blackbeard until bath time. When I got him out of the bath he took off, sliding across the floor away from me hehe! I put him back in his viv to warm up and he was quite active- moving around his viv. Then he started giving me the 'i'm hungry mum- feed me now' look. He happiy took 4ml of critical care, chewing away on the end of the syringe. He's now back in his viv, moving around- I even caught him trying to scratch his sheddy eye on his blankie (I took mostof his furniture away).

Hi MissT,
Well that all sounds very positive, so hopefully whatever was bothering him has improved, and it shows because he's active again. Hope that lasts & that's the end of it. Poor Kazi, he sure has been through alot. And you, too. i'm sending healing prayers, hopefully they'll also have some effect.
Hugs to you both,
Deb

Thank you deb. I really appreciate your kind words. I was very sorry to hear of Roger passing.I hadn't been around on the boards for a while and missed all of your struggle with his illness but I was thinking of you and praying for you and I still continue to do so.

Kazi had a little wander to the cool side an had a little nap after his lunch. He's now back under the basking light looking out at me. Other than bath time, he has been quite calm and reasonably happy all day. I know he really should be staying still but I can't physically force him to stay in one place- that's why I have removed all but his little log- it's only about 2-3 inches high and I have it positioned so that there is comfy towel all around it if he decides to go up there!

Thanks Miss T, I'm managing day by day & start grief counselling next week.

I can't see a problem with Kazi moving, how are you supposed to pin him down, he'd hate that & get very anxious. I think you're doing the right thing and it sounds as if he's feeling much better today. I'll be sending healing prayers, hope that helps a bit. I'm glad you're keeping us up to date, it's good that he's having a good day. Here's to many more.
HUGS

He has just wandered back to the cool side for another little nap. I have to get him up soon for more critical care and then he needs another bath later. I also, desperately need to get his viv cleaned so I'm going to put him on the hoteater bottle in his carrier for a while so I can make his viv all sparkly for him! Hopefully he won't mind!

Saturday Morning - just up and mummy is snapping pics already!

Saturday Afternoon - Kazi decided he needed to move to somewhere more interesting - probably not the best idea as he does not look happy or comfortable

Hello Christine,

Kazi looks much better today, his beard is not all darkened as before. His eyes look better & his head is not sunken in either.
I hope he is feeling better & stays calm all day today.

Kazi had a really good day today, Tracie. He moved around a little although it's more like he's 'sneaking' around than actually walking. He was also quite a bit more alert and his beard did not go black at all today and only about an inch of his tail was dark- and nt constantly! Before, hAlf of his tail was darkened! He had a second feeding if critical care this evening and took 4ml- he was so eager to get it that he almost bit through the syringe! He also had another small piece of mint and some soy yoghurt. Il be trying to get that acidophiliz ordered tomoro, hopefully!
The mouth culture should be back in on tuesday so the vet should be phoning then to make another appointment when I should be able to get the rest of the full blood results.
Tracie, do you think I should be givin him his salad bowl? At the moment I'm just offering small pieces by hand but the only thing he has taken is a small piece of mint each day. I think he might eat locusts but I don't want to give him any until we figure out what is going on- I'm hoping to order silkworms, butterworms and Phoenix worms tomoro- I wish we had a bigger variety of soft worms over here!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
