well thank you for complimenting my little girl everyone. heres a picture of the big rock i just added, now she can get within 8 inches of the uvb bulb and also has another area to climb and hide behind. yes that is the bulb i am using. She can get id say probably about 7-9 inches from it. The heat light bulb is a halogen blue bulb. And the thermometer i am using to take temp is just one of the cheap gauge style ones, no digital read out.

since you said thats your light is a combo heat and uvb and you just added the rock do you think that the heat will increase more than what is recommended when she goes on the rock.

nope cause you can adjust the angle the bulb is at inside the hood. And its angled more down. So if she goes on the rock she will be out of the direction of the spot heat bulb but closer to the uvb bulb. The heat lamp is aimed more towards the base of the big rock

oh ok then that make sense sorry about it a never owned one of these before. i just cant believe they would charge you aver 70 dollars for that light you could have purchased a megaray with those prices.

Your telling me lol, the product does seem like a good idea, i just wish they sold a 10.0 bulb for it, cause now im gonna have to go buy a new uvb bulb and just keep it for the heat lamp part. And dont feel bad your not the only one that didnt know about it, i got scared when i heard bout the problems with rzilla and was asking questions and no one knew what i was talking about they all just thought the combo ones had compact bulbs in them

Wow, those are beautiful rocks, good choices. They should hold the heat nicely. Does the halogen blue bulb actually give off a blue light or is it a white glow? Walmart has the digital thermometers with probes for as cheap as $8.00 and also have one that is $12.00 that will give you the basking and cool side temps at the same time as well as the humidity readout. Any type of stick-on, either the strip or gauge type can be as much as 20 degrees off, so it really is important to know what the actual temps are, especially for a baby. If you'd like to see a picture of the AcuRite $12.00 digital, let me know & I will post one for you.

Have you thought about changing the sand to a solid substrate instead? It's such a concern for a little baby as they lick everything and since they poop so frequently, it's hard to clean up all the poop & liquid to try to prevent bacteria from growing. Other choices would be reptile carpet, slate, or non-adhesive shelf liner.

How's the little ones appetite? Do you need any help with the supplementation of calcium & vitamins? We're always glad to help. :wink:

We have one of those combo lights on our Sav. They are great, but over priced. One day, our apartment smelled like it was on fire, turns out that thing was burning up. I'm glad you are replacing it. We only used it for about a year.. I would hate for anyone else to be in danger from it..

I didnt even know they made a thermom like that and i got ripped off on that thermometer than, ill check out one of the ones at walmart, i hate moving the thermometer around to get my temperatures would b nice to have something that did it all. Yes ive thought about the solid substrate thats actually what i wanted, i went to home depot to look for some sort of tile or slate but couldnt find it in 6x6 sections so it would fit in there easy so i just kinda gave up and went with the play sand which i thought looked good. I just picked up some rep cal calcium / d3 powder today. And her appetite is very good lol to good haha

If you need smaller tiles, they will usually cut them down to whatever size you need.

Ya negative, when i first got it; it smelled like it was gonna catch on fire. but now that its broken in it seems fine, the dome gets very hot so i just keep it from anything that could melt or produce fire.

Yep! I was one of them who hadn't seen that type hood before. I think something like that would work great for my turts.

It is suppose to be for dessert applications. The Desert "50" I doesn't translate to "5.0". It means 50 microwatts per second/cm2. As far as penetration into the tank, there are no specs on that. It is made for desert applications though. They have a whole line of the Desert 50 series, including tubes upto 36".

I wish they had this hood available when my chameleon was young, it would have fit perfectly on top of the terrarium.
