my local pet store said that they was so sure the 10.0 compacts were good for beardies they called Hagan an Hagan did say those compact coil lights are 100% safe for the dragons. your opinions on this??
Pet stores employees really have no idea what they are talking about, coils have been proven to not have the correct wave lengths for beardies, and can also cause eye issues. Of course a company is going to say that they are safe for whatever because they want you to buy the product, they don't care about the animal and it's horrible but it's the truth, it's all about the money. The only uvb bulbs that are ok to use with dragons are Reptisun 10.0 tube light and Arcadia 12%. I am not going to bash you, that's not what forums are for, they are so you can get the correct information.
im going off what hagan said an they said really no artifical light is good for them the only light that will make a beardie grow to there full potential would be the natural sunlight from austraila. every light has some fault by what they was saying. Hagan said "the tube bulbs are bad cause after a while they will leak at the seals" an that was odd since they do make tube bulbs so are they bashing there own product?
You are supposed to change out uvb lights every 6 months, I am sure issues can come up if that's not followed. No artificial is perfect you are right but what it comes down to is that the coil lights are not ok for bearded dragons. My view on this is: Why risk it? If there is a chance that coil lights can harm your bearded dragons health or cause eye damage, why even take the chance? Just like sand, there is a chance of impaction, why even use it. I haven't been a member here that long but I have seen countless threads in the health section about beardies not eating, being lethargic, etc and a lot of the time they are using coils and when they get the proper lighting then they see a dramatic difference in the dragon. So why even take the chance?
I had a coil for my beardie for a couple of weeks I was trying it out and noticed the eye closing from the coil light, it was hurting my baby's eyes. I ordered my reptisun 10.0 tube and shut the coil off. I got my reptisun and installed it and after a few days the eye closing stopped. I know for a fact it was the coil bulb.

I've heard this story hundreds of times. To the OP, get an ordinary reptisun 10. Hagen just wants your money, none of their UVB bulbs are any good for a beardie anyway... So don't bother inquiring to them again
