As you all know, Vash passed away..so sad.
But now I got a new guy, I will send pics
here not on another thread...he's very
stressed being shipped from Florida...I
got one before he wanted to hide.
He is definitely a citrus, I don't have any
shallow bowls because Vash used big boy bowls.
I can't believe I didn't keep them. He's already
into arm waving so another Vash. He likes
being picked up which is weird because Vash
hated it at first. Vash was also from a breeder.
Ok ok time to stop comparing them.
He's already mr stunt double..running jumping
off things..I mean he either wants to fight
his reflection or he wants out. He hasn't eaten
yet...but he wants to play is that normal? I
hadn't had s baby in 10 years.
Thanks for locking the thread.
His coloring is gorgeous. It's hard not comparing the two of them, believe me, I know. I'm glad he likes being picked up already, shows the breeder spent some time doing that.
Babies are VERY active and that's a good thing. If you think his reflection is making him nervous, you could cover the 2 sides of the tank and see if that helps him out. He has been through a lot of changes so will take a little time for him to settle in but it sounds like he is doing very well already. How did you make out with the temps? Sometimes it takes a while to get them just right. Did you pick up small crickets or dubias for him? I'll bet he'll eat a little tomorrow for you.
Small crickets but they're being gut loaded.
I still have calcium powder, so I sprinkle that.
He has a water dish because he doesn't bathe
yet, Vash got water from baths. He will look
at it, not sure if he'll use it, I don't know that
yet. I have washed Vash's old blankets so I will
use them to keep him warm at night. 10 years
ago I left lights on because I was afraid of Vash
dying as a baby. Mu CHE broke while Vash was
dying..he didn't need it because it was warm
but now it's getting cold and my parents don't
believe in CHE's they think get a blanket and
he's fine...so what do I do to keep him warm?
Since it's the time of year for power outages
I have hand warmers, could those work?
Small crickets are good. Make sure you dust with the calcium 5 days a wk but only on 1 feeding a day & then dust with vitamins the other 2 days a wk but only on 1 feeding a day.
When he settles in, you could take him out & put him in a small transparent plastic container to give him a bath in. Put a washcloth or small towel down in the bottom to help him feel more secure.
Try to explain to your parents that beardies are cold blooded so a blanket won't keep them warm at night, their bodies cool off to the temp of the tank. So, when it drops to 65 or 70, would be a good idea to use a low wattage (maybe 60 watt) ceramic heat emitter. They are quite cheap to buy too.
Good that you have hand warmers on hand for power outages, good thinking.
Ok I will buy vitamin powder tomorrow.
I do have a heater and thermometer in
my room and it's about 70* right now.
I do keep my windows and door closed
to let out no heat because my gerbil
needs heat to stay alive. Because he
was in a cup during the ship he has
crap on him...how can I get that off
while he settles in? Heater is on a good
part of the night, I go to bed at 3am..
bad insomnia..severe case of paranoia
too. He's a new schedule 8-8 for the uvb
And 8-9 for the basking, does this work?
I want him in bed at a reasonable time sorry
old man 9:30-11:30 was his bedtime. I want
Alucard in bed at 9 since he is a baby.
I can keep the heater on till 3am while door
and windows are closed.
Thanks Scribble,sucked to see him
die. It will be the same with this guy
when his time comes.
He ate 3 crickets dusted in calcium
since I don't have vitamin powder
yet. My mom only bought 12 crickets,
knowing that's not enough at all, have
to split them up over the week or
at least 4 days. I should have 8 or 9
since some are dead. So I will give
him some tomorrow..but still save them.
Mom will think it's too much to feed all
12 when I know babies can eat 50!
I picked him up to vacuum the powder
that dropped on the carpet of his cage.
He's basking 110 isn't too bad, he seems
to like it. By the way, mom is going to
buy a CHE with the vitamin powder so
yay! He did sleep at 9:30..finally he was
so active I thought he'd never sleep. I
forgot how hard that was for Vash. I
did take him out to meet my sister, the
dogs were calm because I wouldn let
them meet him if they weren't. Nobody
tried to bite him they just sniffed and left.
Didn't seem scared, breeder might have had
dogs. Anyway, he likes crickets but for the
sake of my mother, I will stretch it as far as
I can. I mean Vash lived on 12 being stretched
out as far as they can go.
sorry i wasn't around when vash passed my emails haven't been updating me on the threads lately. i'm glad you were with him when he went. he had a good long life.
on the topic of this new cutie! he really needs to be getting breakfast lunch and dinner at his age. he's going to be eating a LOT of bugs and 12 isn't going to last him very long if you're feeding him when he's hungry. so maybe you could talk about starting a dubia colony or breeding your own crickets? the roaches are honestly (and this is coming from me who gets grossed out by most bugs) 100% better to deal with than crickets. maybe if you showed your parents some research on them they'd let you start one? good luck with little man.
That's a good idea...I should ask if I can get big ones to
start with. No roaches though...I have a big fear of
roaches...since I was 12 when one crawled in my hair
I know they're a different kind. But he does eat a
salad as well. Staple greens and some gel dragon bites
food..but I do need to get on some bugs since worms
are a no at his age. But I'll talk to mom and see what we
can do. I told her 12 isn't nearly enough. I made mistakes
with my first dragon that I don't want to make again..ever!
But if I do need to start with roaches then I will ask if it's
ok to start them.

i was actually pretty worried about roaches too because they creeped me out but once i held the females (the males are still creepy to me) i was okay with it. they breed well, none have ever escaped for me, and they're pretty easy to catch/feed off. also i like to name some of the big girls ahahah.
Then it's settled, I'll ask for the roaches,
we'll have to order them online I'm sure.
See if I can buy a 10 gallon or something
for them to breed. Now, that my roaches
havr died off since Vash wasn't eating any
how do I breed again? I only stopped because
he stopped. Now I got this new guy and he
needs 80% bugs. I been paying attention, just
not sure how to start, I forgot how to make
them breed
Congratulations on having Alucard home! I'm sure you were on pins and needles waiting for his arrival.
He sure is a cutie pie!
If you can't buy as many crickets as Alucard needs to eat on a weekly basis, you can give him mini supers. They last much longer and don't smell. Buying them in bulk would also save you on a lot of money.
