Hi, sorry to hear that your beardie had some serious issues going on. It's good that she's doing better and that you took her to a vet. So, he gave you some Baytril to give her, what is the dosage? Did he give her a shot of Baytril too or something else? That's good that he gave her a calcium injection and from your description, it sounds like he gave her intravenous fluids too. I noticed in your other thread that you were using calci-sand, did you remove that? If not, I suggest you do that right away and can replace it with paper towels for now as that will be much safer. Giving warm baths will help with an impaction as well as massaging gently on her right side from armpit to vent area. If you feel any hardened lumps, massage very gently in a circular motion to try to move it closer to her vent so she can pass it. How long has it been since she pooped? Had she been ingesting a lot of sand?

Did you turn the MVB off to help her recover from the strong ultra violet rays that affected her? The close distance before could have been what brought on the seizure. Are you just using the ceramic heat emitter for heat now? You really shouldn't need a 100 watt CHE and a 100 watt MVB, that's an awful lot of wattage for only a 40 gallon tank. It would be a good idea to leave the MVB off for a few days to help her recover and to replace the CHE with a 100 watt household light bulb for now.

As LJean said, she should be on a probiotic like Benebac, Acidophilis or soy yogurt while she is taking the Baytril, otherwise the antibiotic will affect her appetite and could cause her to be nauseous. Please keep us updated on her.

well the doctor did give her baytril intro-venus i think, and he recomended i turn MVB back on so she can absorb the calcium stuff i giving her thats right isnt it?

the dosage is .01 ml in baytril and .03 on the calcium stuff??

i just gonna put repti-carpet over sand? she never eats sand, ate it once and got all pissed off and black, she doesnt like it, but she doesnt seem to be hungry except for chicken baby food? and i have to keep the CHE on because my house gets cold at night, and i want to keep her warm to help digest any left over food in there, she loves drinking pedia-lite ? so what do i do so many questions i confused

Did you mention to the vet that you had the MVB too close and that she could get only a few inches of it? Because of the way she reacted, Tracie had mentioned a UVB overload and suggested you turn it off for a few days to help her recover and had explained to you that was the reason for her drinking so much. Did you fill the vet in on all these things? So you have the MVB turned on, how far away is it from her? She shouldn't be able to get any closer than 12" to it anywhere in her tank, that's extremely important. Are you still using the 100 watt CHE during the day along with the MVB? If so, having wattage as high as 200 in only a 40 gallon is an awful lot.

Also, she could be impacted from the sand as it's impossible to watch them continuously and the thing with calci-sand is that it builds up and hardens in their belly like cement so it can make it impossible to pass and since it contains calcium, it encourages them to lick it which can be deadly.

You need to make sure that she is allowed at least 2 hrs to digest any type of food before you turn the basking light off. What is the temp in the tank at night with the CHE on? If it is 80 or over, make sure the CHE is not right over the area where she is sleeping because they do need temps a little cooler at night and it's not good for them to have temps any hotter than that when sleeping.

Please keep us updated on him.

Hello
Can I ask why the vet gave calcium?Did he do bloodwork or was there something else that made him think it was needed?I think Diamc's advice to you is correct and I would definately make sure the vet is aware of how close you had him to the MVB because that could easily have caused a seizure as well.I also dont recommend you leave the sand of any kind in the tank regardless of if you have carpet over it or not especially since he is having impaction issues. Its probably best to just stick with solid substrate.I hope your beardie is ok pleas do keep us posted.

No, that she had a seizure after the meds.
The medicine he gave her can really take a lot out of her. It's rough on their systems.

Hello,

I have to ask why the vet gave Baytril without knowing if she had any infection. Did he do a fecal to determine parasites?
It is a possibility that he gave too much Baytril. However, since she has been dehydrated, giving a nephrotoxic substance like Baytril will do more harm than good. You cannot give harsh antibiotics to a dehydrated reptile, it can cause renal failure.
Please keep us posted on her. Also, please try to give all of your updates on one thread because we have alot of threads on the same or similar type of scenario with her & we are going to get alot of information crossed & confused. So, if you would like, I can merge a couple of topics for you, is that ok? It would help so we can keep all of the information together.

wow she had a seizure in her bath? has she ever had one before? if so how often?
ok the meds im really not sure of, i always thought the baytril was to treat parasites or worms but it could be used for something else i havent a clue, i also didnt think it was a good idea to treat anything until an actual diagnosis and some meds can do more harm than good but still i would wait for tracie or vicky to answer those ones for you!

so shes eating too much and is impacted, bless her, i hope she picks up soon!
