I've heard a BD cant feel the heat from below to regulate their body temperatures. I have my heat mat stuck to the inside of my viv but up on the side not on the floor

cool thx i was just curious that all !so if i had my heating pad under my tank does it worth nothing because bearded dragon dont feel heat on their bellie ?... but the only thing i was using my heating pad is to raise the temp in my tank a bit (only few degres)!! should i remove it or keep it there ??? and is only a small one too only like 8in x8in .

I think there is a chance they can overheat and not realise this. The heat rocks can burn the beardys bellie so not sure if the same applies to the mat. Can you not fix it to the side?

i unplug at night to prevent the over eating the pad is only on like 8h a day from noon til 8 at night is that ok :D just like i said earlier is just to raise up a bit de temp :)

What if you have a heating pad with the Zoo med Carpet and then a basking rock over top of the carpet and pad? Or would that just be a drain on my electric bill for nothing.... I was also wondering about putting the pad under tile? I have not done any of these things so don't worry! lol

i found my bearded dragon moves around his tank so hewouldnt benifit from a heat mat. tru getting a cermic heat bulb on a theromstat and set it at the ideal temp then it can come and go through at the day and night.

the only thing to watch with artifical things like rocks and carpets is that they can get really hot and i've heard of dragons suffering from burns. If you go for a ceramic bulb with thermostat then you can keep a base tempreture. The thermostat can be expensive at first i paid £30 ukpounds. But in the long run it lasts and if setup correctly is reliyable and more natural then you can put your own rocks underneath it.

Im still confused about under tank heaters. I have an exoterra brand that i stuck to the bottom of the tank. The largest UTH is only 25 watts. If i have a thick layer of newspaper or sand for substrate..how can he burn himself?

I honestly don't think the pads run much of a burn risk. My vet actually recommended one to boost the night temp a little bit after my dragon had an impaction. It doesn't run really hot and is only like 8 watts. Mine is a Zoo Med.

Like I said mine is stuck to the inside of the Viv on the wall. That way it stays warm and doesnt risk injuring Puff

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
