Does your home get below 60 at night? if not then you dont need a black light
Bearded dragons like to sleep like we do in darkness.
My guys sleep with blankets over their bodies just for extra warmth and also because they are in the living room and the tv is on at night so that the light doesnt bother them.
Also my vivs are both on timers 12 hours a day.
The black light you are using is actually quite bothersome to the sleeping habits of bearded dragons. At night the temps can drop to around 60 degrees, if it gets below that I would suggest a ceramic heating element. They provide additional warmth with no light being emitted.
I have polar fleece little blankets that I made for them I wrap them up at night with them and place them in their hammocks that are also made out of polar fleece keeps them warm at night also the light stays away from them when they sleep.
interesting!! just a quick question though.. i heard that because beardie's are cold blooded, keeping them wrapped in a blanket actually makes them colder? do you think this is true? :study:
Cold-blooded doesn't mean their blood is literally cold, it means they have to thermoregulate with external temps, where warm-blooded creatures can do so (somewhat) independently - it takes temps a lot hotter/colder to cause problems for, say, a dog, than for a beardie, and a dog's body is going to stay at about the same temperature regardless of the outside temperature, where a reptile's will not. Since they gain and lose heat through their skin, just like other animals, I would imagine a blanket could still help reflect the heat back on them?
...That's idle speculation on my part, no science behind it at all. So I may be totally off-base! And apologies if you know that, and I'm just spouting off on something completely irrelevant to the question.
I use a blankets for them because they like it makes them warm as well and they like to snuggle at night in them.
Alot of people wrap their beardies up in the burrito which my male likes.
My female just like to have her blankie layed over her at night.
I think it keeps them comfy and warm but thats just my opinion plus it blocks the light from the tv shinning on them when hubby is up late watching it.
...Oh, good. I thought I had the only beardie in the world who won't put up with that. If my hand appears, she thinks it's fair game to start playtime. No way is she going to hold still to be wrapped. She'll put up with being covered, but never wrapped!
