Hammocks

Any opinion one way or another on hammocks? Do you put them on the cool or warm side? Have any injuries resulted from them? Do beardies instinctively take to them?

I don't know of any injuries, but I haven't been here very long. Rudy was a little afraid of his hammock for about a day....then he was all over it....literally! I put his on the warm side and it's a favorite place to bask now.

Oh, and he sleeps on it at night all wrapped in his fleece blankie.

I love hammocks! Both of mine have them on the warm side and are constantly on it. My little one likes to jump up underneath and hang upside down from the bottom of it like spiderman. They do hold great, but i think when my juvie gets a little bigger I may start to use command hooks instead of the suction cups to hang it because as they get bigger the holes get a little stretched out. I also use a rock for basking since the hammocks dont hold heat that well. I would definetly reccomend one!

Fiz loves his hammock! I got the green hammock from the pet store with the suction cups on the three corners. For awhile, I had it suction cupped to the corner of Fiz and KD's 40 gallon breeder tank. But then I upgraded them both to their very own melamine vivs. Which then I realized that I couldn't hang Fiz's hammock up in his new viv because suction cups don't stick to melamine! I was pretty upset about that. But then someone on the site brought up the idea of hanging it by three command hooks. It worked perfectly! Fiz enjoys his hammock very much.

I used to wrap him up in a blanket and then use the hammock as his 'bed' so that he would be up off of the ground and supported. But then I made him his own actual bed (you can see it in the DIY section) so he doesn't sleep on it any more.

But Fiz sure does love relaxing in the cool side of his viv, chowing down on a phoenix worm, just chilling on his hammock :wink:

Bindy has a hammock, and he had a knack of using it as a bed for a while there. Though, he has now gotten too big/heavy and the suction cups let go and he falls. Not far - the hammock is only an inch or two on the ground but when it gives way he looks at me quite confused.. no Bindy, you are not fat..

I have heard of one injury from the hammocks which are a tight mesh - someone beardie got his claw stuck in it, and ended up tearing it out So be weary!

My Pog LOVES his hammock. Your def going to want to ditch the suction cups though. Heres a trick. Invest in 3M hooks or any type of adhesive hook, I went w/ the heavy duty one b/c frankly...Pog is heavy duty AND hes a flopper so they hooks need to be able to handle the stress Heres the trick...The material slips off the hooks from time to time. I took those handy small rubber bands from around the tops of cricket bags and used them as a "stopper" to keep the material from slipping off. It works wonders

As far as injury goes, Im sure they can get theyre nails caught but it hasnt happened to any of my guys. The closest I've come to one of mine being injured was when my middle girl got her noggin stuck between the hammock and the viv glass. She got out of that unscathed though.
