Wow Michele, what a steal for a tank AND stand that size. That's great. Your mom sure knows the right places, and for her and your sister to pick it up and deliver it, makes it much easier for you. I will be glad to help you with the temps, we sure have assisted each other a LOT over the yrs with those. :roll:

Hope Lucy the skunk is what Gem wants her to be, in case he has high expectations of her. :laughhard:

I got the tank and stand yesterday and it is much bigger than I expected. It is 48'' long, 24'' wide and 31'' HIGH! I'm not sure if it's going to work out,it is going to be very difficult to get a good basking temp. I am going to need a step stool for feedings and to get Gem in and out of there. The stand is 29'' high so with the tank that is a total of 60'' (5 ft). :shock:
It needs a real good cleaning too.

i don't know if this will work for you but, when i had trouble getting the temps right, i ended up raising the entire floor rather than having lamps hanging down inside the tank.

I'm with Diane about raising the floor. I was using one that size on a stand with Rocky my first beardie. It was such a pain in the rear to reach into an I'm not a small woman. Even with a step stool it's almost impossible to reach the floor at the rear of the tank for cleaning. If the floor were raised then you would have a much easier time cleaning after that little salad thrower :lol: ...and the temps would be easier to get. Otherwise you may have to actually use another additional light just to raise the temps.

Wow Michele, that really is high,.............. all mine are 24" high, and I have a hard time getting things high enough for my babies to climb on and bask, especially with the reptisuns, because they need to be closer than the MVB's, but I'm sure you'll figure it out and have success in doing so.

I'm curious ladies, what did you use to raise the floors in your tanks, when the height was so high?

Yes,I think I'm going to have to raise the floor a bit,I just have to figure out how to do that. It's set up in the kitchen right now and I still have to clean it because it has alot of algae in it from the fish. I ended up using Jojo's old stand because it's 11'' shorter than the new stand but I still have to use a step stool to reach the bottom :roll:

Gee, how did you know Gemini is a salad thrower? :mrgreen: I'm curious...how many supers should I be giving him at one time? I've been doing only 5 at a feeding but I also offer him crickets. He eats the supers right out of a bowl,and he recognizes the worm bowl as soon as he sees it

in the shelving/closet section of Home Depot, they carry some metal shelves that have 8 inch legs and the shelf tops slide out to extend to any size up to about 36 inches. i just set those up in the tank and then placed the tiles on top. since the tank is 48 inches, i used bricks to fill in the other end and add some different heights for sydney to climb. worked out great!

you're welcome! hope it works for you and Gem. btw, before you place the tiles on top, you may want to place a few decorative items in the bottom of the tank just so it looks nicer. the tiles are no joy to take in and out, as you no doubt already know. have fun!

That's a great idea Dawn, for raising the floor, I too, would love to see a pic of your set-up, and of course, the same with Gemi's viv when you get it set up.......(I just loved the way you fixed Jojo's viv) NOW I HAVE TO STOP AND GET A KLEENEX!
