Finn, Venus and Jupiter: New beardie baby!

Spyro is my first bearded dragon and I brought him home on the 27th. He came from an individual that was not giving him the proper care: No uvb, feeding mealworms, sand, UTH instead of basking light, etc. They had been misinformed by a pet store employee (big surprise there). I wanted to start this thread so I and everyone else can watch Spyro as he grows.

About me: My name is Lindsey, I am 25 years old. I have a 6 year old daughter with Angelman Syndrome and she a happy little girl that teaches me something new everyday. I have a 4 year old boy named Garrett that shares my love of animals and he loves Spyro as much as I do. I have 3 dogs: Remington(Remi) is a 1 1/2 year old boxer, Tucker is my shihtzu mix, and the mighty Kujo, a toy poodle weighing in a 4.5 lbs. I also have 3 leopard geckos: Venus, Loki, and Thor. I am attending school full time to become a surgical tech. My life is chaotic, but that's the way I like it.

Now back to Spyro, this is the day I brought him home( I am sure a lot of you have seen these pics in the intro section, sorry I will have new ones up soon) :

I will update every once in a while with new pictures. When I got him he was in shed.... and still is. I am getting impatient to see this guy brighten up!

Wow, what a day, glad you decided to leave early, though. Good decision. Glad no-one was hurt in either incident.

It will be a lot better on your budget when Finn can eat supers, I've been lucky, I've been getting them from a friend for $15 for 500 so haven't even been to the pet shop, but will be going tomorrow to get crickets for Bunny, as she won't eat either phoenix worms or roaches. I'm lucky, Rocco has been eating roaches, so he's good, the crickets will be only for Bunny. I'm glad because she has no substrate or backing in her tank, so it's easy to keep track of them. I'll still give her Repashy every 2nd night. The calcium really worked, no more head shaking and she's eating almost 1.0 ml of Repashy every 2nd night. She'll only eat it from the syringe, though, not in her little dish, crazy eh?

It was a really crazy day..

I will be glad when supers are an option because Finn is eating 25-35 crickets a day and so that has gotten pretty pricey! I miss my dubia!

That's right, you were worried about the dubia being found by the landlord. I'm sorry about that, drag.

Well Finn didn't eat yesterday, I don't really know why unless it was due to the massive shed he is going through right now. I am hoping he eats today and hopefully his new Reptisun will be in tomorrow.

Some beardies just don't do anything when there's a massive shed going on, so that is probably it. He'll be ravenous when it's gone and eat you out of house & home

Bunny is eating her crickets like crazy, so I'm glad I got some just for her. Rocco is doing fine with roaches, so that's good.

Titan had a biopsy on Friday, so we'll know soon what we're battling. I've stopped the injections, as Tracie told me giving anti biotics (for bacteria) when it could be fungal will make it worse & it has. So we'll see what the anti-fungal cream does for him, started him on it yesterday. Should get results by end week so will know what else he'll need to get to clear this up. Just hoping it's not Yellow Fungus!

I am glad to hear that Bunny is eating crickets well and I am glad that her head isn't shaking anymore. Also I will be watching for the results of Titan's biopsy, I also hope that it is not yellow fungus! Hopefully the antifungals work on him.

Finn ate a little today but not his usual. I really think that it is just his shed.

I think it's Finn's shed, too, as they get older it seems to take longer and it seems to bother them more. I'll let you know what the results are for Titan.

Well I am still waiting on Finn's shed, he is a very grumpy beardie! I got his Reptisun in the mail on the 9th, I haven't noticed a change in him yet but that is probably the shed as well.

My school funds came in so come Monday I will be ordering some horns to spoil my lizard babies.

Glad to hear you got your funding in & that Finn got his Reptisun. He'll feel better when his shed is done, I find they get grumpier the older they get.

Titan has a fungus, they lab is doing more stains to determine which type, so he's being smeared with anti-fungal every 3 days as it really bothers him and we see the vet again tomorrow. Then wait for the new results so he can get an oral antifungal to kill it for once & for all, hopefully.

I saw on Liz's thread that you got a new laptop and can now see everyones threads, good for school, too, I'll bet. Hopefully school is going better for you!

School is going good. I had my 8 week block final on Thursday and passed with a 87. It was the hardest test I have had to take, so I am happy with my grade.

Sorry to hear about Titan, I have the next few days off from school and I need to sit down and get caught up on everybody's threads!

Well done on that exam and I'm glad school is going well. I just got back from the vet & have a copy of the biopsy report, so have the name of the fungus. My vet doesn't want to do oral anti-fungus unless she has to, so for now it's Betadine on his skin 1/2-1/2 with water, then anti-fungal cream 1 day on his head & back, next day on his tummy & no baths as moisture can cause fungus to grow. So he drinks tons of water, serrepeptase and acidophilus daily, too. I see the vet again on Friday and we'll go from there. I just want him well, poor baby. We figure the infection from the burns brought on the fungus, so we also figure the bacterial infection is cleared & the fungus is a secondary reaction to the meds he's been on for the last 6 weeks. So those meds are finished. I have an eye gel for him, too, to protect his eyes and surrounding tissue, but I put the anti-fungal cream around that, just in case. He's not a happy beardie right now, he's in his tank staring at me like "how could you do this to me Mommy?" Well, snuggles tonight, he has his own pillowcase that I wrap him in & he dozes while I watch TV.

Have a good few days off!
Hugs to Finn and Venus from my crew.

Aww poor Titan, I just feel awful for the guy. All of us are hoping he feels better soon.

Look who I caught mid shed tonight! I haven't seen her shed in probably a year, she is so sneaky about it.

Hopefully Finn follows her lead....

Thanks Lindz, I've been doing a lot of research as I want my baby to beat this awful thing.

And she does look like she's wearing a Leo hoodie, so cute!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
