Sometimes they do that when they are sheadding, it sorts stretches the skin in order to help the shead. But what sort of lighting do you have ? Coil/comact, MVB, Floresent, brand names to please.

dark red? thats the bit i found a tad alarming,
yes they do puff their eyes out when their shedding that part to loosen skin, you can see a short video of a bd bulging his eyes here -

you can also see some pictures and read about it here -

so when you say dark red, is his colouring around his eyes that colour? can you see any swelling around his eyes, mucus, blood, etc?
if they look clear and his eyes are nice, bright and alert then its probably due to shedding.
hope ive helped.
:D

This is a little off the subject at hand, but have you guys seen the lil lizzards that shoot blood from their eyes to ward of prediters!? So freaky! They puff up and build up presure in their head and then it shoots several feet, and it does no damage what so ever to thier eyes

It is not entirely known why bearded dragons shed, but yawning is a theory. The most common theory is that they are loosening shedding skin.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
