Dwarf

She doesn't look like a dwarf to me... She seems to just be very young still - her spikes are very small for an adult. You should ask how old she is, and all about her husbandry.

I asked how old she is and how long she is. I'm waiting on the reply. I don't know if I really trust these people...She is cute and all but if she is a "dwarf" I may not want to get her. Don't female beardies need to be around the same size as male beardies to be housed together?

Bearded dragons should never be housed together. Period. They will eventually hurt each other, and a male will constantly pester a female to mate, to the point where she could literally die from stress. Please don't get her in order to house her with your male.

Well I have read a lot of articles saying it all depends on a lot of things, like the size of the tank, the age of the dragons and tempers of the males. If need be I have a complete other set up but if they get along then there should be no problem with them being together. I have a 100gallon tank and a 75 gallon tank. So even if my guy doesn't take. I'll still have room for her. I've read a lot of articles and seen a lot of pictures with beardies together...

Edit* Yeah I see now. That was going to be one of my questions. Why do I always see pictures of people having their beardies together and they're always laying on each other.

When they lay on each other it is a sign if dominance for the better basking spot. Many people are uninformed of the potential consequences that could arise from beardies being housed together and they think it is cute and that the beardie's are having fun.

Yes, that is exactly what I though until I read that article Esther posted. I have some more questions regarding that but I think that would go better as a new topic in enclosures. Thanks for the quick advice though people.

As for that "dwarf" does anyone know some way to tell. Maybe depending on the length and age once I get that information.

There is a "dwarf" beardie called a Rankin's dragon, but I believe it is a separate sub-species of Pogona. As far as I can recall, they do not beard, are smaller, and have a differently shaped head. Google Rankin's dragons, or do a search on this site. I do remember people telling about the differences. Good luck!

Yes, a Dwarf would be a Rankin's or Lawson's Dragon, which I'm 100% Positive that the Pictured Dragon is NOT! It look's exactly like a Baby Beardie, I would some it is some type of Orange Morph, but it will grow to the same size as a Normal Bearded dragon. Also Rankin's have Different Shaped Head's than Beardie's, and that look's to be a Normal Beardie Shaped head. Also I have Never Heard of any type of Color Morph for a Rankin's, Im almost Positive there are no orange Morph Rankin's.

IMO they are calling her a Dwarf just so people will hurry and buy her, because people will think she will stay small and wont Require a Large tank and everything.

I messaged those people and asked them to stopp lying and that they should consider that the people who buy her will think that shell stay that small but she will grow and eventually needs a bigger tank, more food etc and nobody knows if the owner then still wanna care for her.I told them that they have a beautiful beardie and they'll find a home sooner or later but they should tell the truth so that she can stay at her new home forever.

To clarify what a dwarf is [ or is claimed to be ] , just Google pogona minor. That is another small type of beardie, but not on the market. There is also the Rankin's aka/ pogona brevis aka pogona rankini aka pogona henrylawsoni. [ All the same, I belive but a little dispute about the proper name , but widely known as Rankin's ] So those are some dragons that truly are a small species in themselves. However, the bearded dragons that we know and keep as pets [ p. vitticeps ] can produce " dwarf" or " midget " babies that have a shorter neck + trunk, with the trunk being very round, and these dragons end up smaller than the average dragon. These have been called " dwarfs " due to their size + body structures, and they come from normal sized parents. The dragon in question that is in the ad does look like one of these, not as small as some, but still showing the smaller, rounder body.

Alright, I see. So after I get the information from the lady would it be that much easier to guess if she is a dwarf or not?

Do you mean her age , weight + length ? That really won't tell you much because some beardies [ even posted on this site ] are very small for their age. If you could ask her where she got the beardie from, whether or not she bred it from her own stock , and if she has siblings that she could take a picture next to for comparison of the snout to vent length, then you could get an idea of her different shape + size. The dwarfs have a shorter neck + body, but their head is normal size and tail are pretty much regular length. It looks to me like this one will be a smaller, chubbier dragon that could be called a dwarf.

I know that her and her husband breed them out of Denver, CO. I have talked to her before but didn't trust her. She told me she had females and posted them on craigslist as males. I wrote to one of the adds I saw not realizing it was her and she sent me the pic for the add I posted based on how much I had to spend. As soon as I get a respond from her I'll post the information. I'll also ask for comparison pictures with some from the same clutch.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
