Worms with Dad by katiebread, on Flickr

Meet Clovis! Clovis came to our vet tech from a owner who did not care for him well. He is missing the tip of his tail and 2 of his toes. However, you can see he is quite the handsome boy; look at that orange on his face! We have 3 1/2 containers of extra-small phoenix worms left from our baby Bowser, who we had to put to sleep. Clovis will finish off these guys and we'll order bigger ones next time. This paper towel contained maybe 10-15 worms, which Clovis delicately picked off one by one.

Clovis tried to eat the camera right after this by katiebread, on Flickr

Clovis is definitely the stomach on legs that I hoped Bowser would one day become. I think he wanted to eat my camera flash, so I turned it off and took turns with my husband feeding him kale. He gobbled it all up!

Mah Stick by katiebread, on Flickr

Clovis came with a tank, his stick, his favorite bowl, the reptile carpet, a clamp light, and a heating pad. Wow! Tomorrow I'm going to give his viv a good cleaning and put in his UVB light. The carpet provides good insulation from the heating pad, so I'll keep it in there for now. I want to get a temp gun to get the temps right so I don't have to mess with probes. The meat thermometer I have right now hates me, and the feeling is mutual.

I want to come back ou-ut! by katiebread, on Flickr

The downside to the fun of feeding a beardie who was excited to eat was that we needed to let him bask so he could digest his good noms! Clovis was not pleased and ran all around his viv, trying to climb out. After 45-60 minutes I took him out for snuggling and floor time. He ran all over living room and kitchen, and scrabbled in protest when he was prevented from going under furniture or getting into mischief. He ended up falling asleep under my hair, even wiggling up to get in a better snuggle position. As a bonus, I didn't see too many stress marks on him while he was exploring! There were some faint black lines on his beard and belly but nothing like Bowser had, poor little guy.

I will update with pics of his viv once we have it set up properly, but we had a lovely first evening with our new boy and can't wait to play with him tomorrow! I bet he is already dreaming of worms and salads.

The past two days have been snow days and I think Clovis is feeling the chill. Usually he makes laps around the apartment when we take him out during the day, but the past two days he just goes to the Battleship game in the corner and hangs out on it. I put him under my sweatshirt around 6:30-7pm and he falls right asleep, and when his lights go on he just keeps lying under his towel until I move him. (I have to leave for work by 7:45am and I want him warm before I give him his morning salad, even if he only eats the squash.) We got our first beardie ever in October, and lost him a few weeks after that. Then we got Clovis in November. So I have never had a beardie during the summertime. I am looking forward to it!

He loves to climb on the Goodwill bag, and I love to put that sword there and take his picture. It's dark because he doesn't like the flash.

His favorites are the mesh Goodwill bag, the area around my husband's desk, the sliding glass door, and behind the trashcan and recycling. He also loves to try and get into the bathroom and bedroom, which are off limits! We sleep on the floor and once during his floor time I heard a rustling over by the beds. I looked over and saw a beardie tail peeking over the mattress. I had forgotten to close the door and he'd sneaked in!

Snoozing by katiebread, on Flickr

This is a lot of what Clovis is doing lately. He seems to think bedtime is like 6:30pm, and whenever I let him out for evening floor time (I work until 4pm at the earliest), he just finds a spot to snooze. He has also been refusing buggies some days and is not eating his salads like he used to when we first got him back in October. I think the cold weather is finally catching up to him. I know he's healthy because he just had a fecal, and the vet told us to give him meds and then bring him back in 6 months. Naturally I've been awful about remembering the meds. However, the parasites were few and far between, so it's more of a precaution anyway. Bedtime has been early evening for a while now. I'm really curious to see how his behavior changes as spring comes. I am guessing that he will get a lot more active. We're starting to have some warmer days now, so maybe spring will come early!

Clovis got his new harness today! I've never put a harness on a beardie before, and though I tried my best to be gentle it still felt awkward tugging his wee legs. Naturally he was more active today than he's been for a while and was not keen on anything hampering his movement. He immediately got it wrapped around a chair. I think the fact that I was wearing a hat with fur on it didn't help, and I got bearded by my fierce little man! I didn't take it personally though. I just took Clovis out of the harness and let him scamper. I'll wait for the next warm day and try it on him outside. He'll forget all about it when he's running through warm grass! :D

I kept caving to his demands to be let out, and when I finally told him he needed to warm up if he wanted buggies, he crawled into his hide! Silly beardie. Oh well. I'm trying to get him on a 2 days on, 1 day off bug schedule since I don't know how old he is and don't want him to be eating buggies like a juvie for the rest of his life, the little goober!

Clovis is looking very cute in his new harness! Mine were never super impressed with the harnesses, but seemed to tolerate them with no major issues :) I bet he'll get used to it, esp if he's outside!! Great new pics as always :) The one with the close up of the empty harness and him far away was cute :) Clovis is a handsome boy as he runs around the house :)

A little sexy leg for ya.

Yesterday Clovis ate something random, black, and crunchy off of the floor. I heard him chomping away, but it was too late to pull whatever it was out of his mouth. I berated him for eating random stuff off of the floor instead of his salads, and he just looked at him and smacked his lips. Typical.

Today he is extremely active, and keeps glass dancing to get out. I gave him a long soak in warm water, and he kept trying to run through the plastic tub. However, he gave me a nice big healthy poop, so I'm assuming he's not impacted from whatever he ate! I'll give him baths for the next two or three days to be sure.

Anyway, he got about 2 hours of floor time and then basked a bit and ate his Reptiworms, and about 15 minutes later wanted out. I held him for a few minutes and put him back to bask. Nope, not good enough. He started glass dancing with such energy that I was afraid he would hurt himself, and I let him run around for about 20 minutes before scooping him back into his viv to digest. So he chilled under his light for about half an hour and now he just went into his hide! Ornery little thing! :p

it's always scary when they eat something random, but it seems like they're pretty tough overall. a week ago, falkor ate a random bug that had gotten into her cage. really scared me at the time so i made her eat some salad to try to dilute it. she's definitely been fine since. i'm sure clovis will be fine as well :)

Thanks! I wasn't going to be panicked unless he didn't poop today. Pretty much the only veggie he eats is squash, so that helps the poop flow. ;)

Nice sexy leg shots! :)
Silly dragons eat things off the floor just to scare their slaves! Im glad he seems fine and I'm sure there will be no major issues. My first dragon was running around in the apt where we had a wood burning fireplace so I had a stack of firewood... well when he ran over I didn't think much... figured he'd climb on it... WRONG ... he started chomping on the wood and eating it! He did ok though thank goodness ..Lol was worried for several days. Lol

Well, Clovis has found his calling. He is a therapy lizard. I am so sorry that I do not have pictures of him with the kids he visited, but I can't post them due to confidentiality.
The expressions on the faces of my students with special needs were priceless. Huge grins and giggles were everywhere. Clovis sat in their hands quietly until he got to a young man with autism. This young man was the happiest and most interested we've ever seen, and he is a pretty happy guy on a daily basis. Clovis decided to crawl into his lap, and the young man loved it! Clovis also got poked in the face pretty hard by accident when a young man with cerebral palsy was petting him. Clovis did not even blink!
He spent a whole day at one of my two middle schools and showed the kids about predators and prey by hunting his crickets. They were all squealing and talking to him, and kids and teachers were coming in all day to see him. He must have loved the attention, because he ate more salad than I ever remember him eating and pooped for the first time in days. He's drastically reduced his appetite and his pooping recently, and I've been worried about him. Since that day he hasn't touched a salad and won't even eat bugs every day. I think he is on hunger strike to go back! If he doesn't start eating and pooping more a vet visit might be in order. I'll try and get some good pics to post next time!

This is why I cannot hang towels to dry over the side of Clovis' viv. Beardies are part monkey.

The side of my backpack is a great place for napping, apparently!

clovis outside1 by katiebread, on Flickr

All of this to explore, and he just sat there. I think he was sulking because he was in his harness. He does not like that thing, but I am too scared of losing him outside to let him free without it!

new viv1 by katiebread, on Flickr

It is amazing how much better his viv looks with non-adhesive shelf liner as substrate instead of newspaper. We also got some soapstone slabs from the old quarry near my in-law's house, and after scrubbing and baking them my husband arranged them. They look so nice! :) :) :)

...and then starts glass-dancing to get back to the exploring that we interrupted to show him his new setup! He seemed to like it though; he was climbing around licking things. I call him Lickeytongue, like the Pokemon. He licks everything! It's so cute! :blob5: :blob8: :blob5:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
