Worms with Dad by katiebread, on Flickr

Meet Clovis! Clovis came to our vet tech from a owner who did not care for him well. He is missing the tip of his tail and 2 of his toes. However, you can see he is quite the handsome boy; look at that orange on his face! We have 3 1/2 containers of extra-small phoenix worms left from our baby Bowser, who we had to put to sleep. Clovis will finish off these guys and we'll order bigger ones next time. This paper towel contained maybe 10-15 worms, which Clovis delicately picked off one by one.

Clovis tried to eat the camera right after this by katiebread, on Flickr

Clovis is definitely the stomach on legs that I hoped Bowser would one day become. I think he wanted to eat my camera flash, so I turned it off and took turns with my husband feeding him kale. He gobbled it all up!

Mah Stick by katiebread, on Flickr

Clovis came with a tank, his stick, his favorite bowl, the reptile carpet, a clamp light, and a heating pad. Wow! Tomorrow I'm going to give his viv a good cleaning and put in his UVB light. The carpet provides good insulation from the heating pad, so I'll keep it in there for now. I want to get a temp gun to get the temps right so I don't have to mess with probes. The meat thermometer I have right now hates me, and the feeling is mutual.

I want to come back ou-ut! by katiebread, on Flickr

The downside to the fun of feeding a beardie who was excited to eat was that we needed to let him bask so he could digest his good noms! Clovis was not pleased and ran all around his viv, trying to climb out. After 45-60 minutes I took him out for snuggling and floor time. He ran all over living room and kitchen, and scrabbled in protest when he was prevented from going under furniture or getting into mischief. He ended up falling asleep under my hair, even wiggling up to get in a better snuggle position. As a bonus, I didn't see too many stress marks on him while he was exploring! There were some faint black lines on his beard and belly but nothing like Bowser had, poor little guy.

I will update with pics of his viv once we have it set up properly, but we had a lovely first evening with our new boy and can't wait to play with him tomorrow! I bet he is already dreaming of worms and salads.

I don't think Clovis is a fan of the cold weather. I took him out and he sat on my palm for a bit, and then scooted up my arm to face-plant the crock of my elbow and snooze. He's currently tucked under my sweatshirt, on my right side, with his right hand gripping my t-shirt collar. It is our standard position. And he is finally shedding his face!

He only had 3 superworms as far as buggies go today. We're trying to step the bugs back and not give them every day since he's 14 inches with a tail nip now. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Snoozin by katiebread, on Flickr

This is how Clovis falls asleep every night. He starts digging and I snatch him up, and he doesn't seem to have any serious objections. He just digs on me. He totally trashed his viv today trying to finish shedding his head, but he was successful. Of course he has a big piece of shed hanging from his leg, but he doesn't seem to care. Wormy little goofball.

Clovis' Rockin New Accessory by katiebread, on Flickr

Yes, that is a PVC pipe joint. I needed something plastic that I could bleach when he poops on it and that would act as a hide. The cheapest solution I could think of was PVC pipe. Everything that goes in his viv is fair game for a potty, and he's still got some lingering pinworms, so I need something that I can easily sanitize!
See, Clovis? This is why you have grocery store leaflets instead of tile and a plastic PVC pipe instead of a log hollowed out and cut in half like a normal reptile.
On the plus side, lookit that little belly! I need to get a scale soon so I can chart the increase in chub, and make sure we don't lose too much on the upcoming Panacur courses.

I love the sweatshirt shot. That looks just like Quigley. He loves to snuggle at night. I can tell you if he is not ready to snuggle nothing will keep him under his blankie. It is amazing that he never moves a muscle after he digs at my neck a little bit. I can get up and move about the house and he still will sit between my neck and shoulder. I love it when he is ready to snuggle. :blob5:

Sprawling by katiebread, on Flickr

I cut some non-adhensive shelf liner to fit over the PVC so Clovis can actually climb it himself now. Also, note the pretty back markings that I won't get to see for at least a week because he's starting to skim over. Again. He's shed his whole body in stages since November and his legs might've shed multiple times. It makes deciding whether to feed him like a juvie or an adult difficult, because he is obviously still growing! However, yesterday he did not get any bugs and today he ate more salad than he has in a long time. So I think 1-2 bug-free days a week to encourage salad consumption won't hurt!

Too Full to Move by katiebread, on Flickr

Taken after after all you can eat buggies for about 15 minutes. Clovis is obviously not suffering in the weight department! Look at that tum!

Git On Mah Bellah! by katiebread, on Flickr

I woke him up to take this picture. I think it was worth it. You can see his missing fingers on his left hand from when he threw the Ring into Mt. Doom and Gollum bit them off. Also, doesn't he look rather male in this picture?

His bum was up in the air right before I took his one. Alas, he moved.

Hope you enjoyed!

Im so glad I never had those kinds of parasites in my beardie home! I hope he gets rid of them all! Most I had was coccidia. Nothing that I had to clean the viv over and over for. Does he have the two bumps on his tail or just the one? If its just the one clovis will be a female...I found out pip was a girl and I was bummed but now I love that shes a girl!

The vet checked a few weeks ago and said she couldn't tell if he was a guy or a girl. The vet tech we got him from said he was a guy, so we're just going with that. ;)
We have no idea where he got the pinworms from. Maybe some bad crickets? :? He does poop in his viv every day at least once, so I think that's why the vet wants us to bleach it every day. Sometimes he's a good boy and poops before I leave for work, so I can clean it up and he can have a poop-free home for the day. Aaaand sometimes he poops after I leave and it sits there until I get home. :x

I swear there are two bulges on his tail. I just woke him up from his customary under-the-sweatshirt snooze to check.

I have my beardie on my too! It was hard for me to tell that my boy was a boy at first too...but the real test is the head bobbing... does he do a lot of black bearding? Thats how i knew for sure Zippy was a boy. Do you have a second beardie to set him by?

No to all, alas. He's a pretty chill guy. He'll get a darker beard whilst exploring or basking sometimes, but he's only gone all black maybe 3 times. I don't think I've ever seen him head-bob. And he's our only one; we have a one bedroom apartment, so we don't really have space for another beardie. I drool over gorgeous pics on breeder websites and on this forum, but I am having so much fun lavishing all of my attention on Clovis that I don't mind only having one!

Such cute new pictures !!! He was definitely showing off in that "sprawling" picture :) TOO cute !
If you see 2 bumps it's probably a boy. The headbobbing trick doesn't always work... My first dragon was a male and he only ever head bobbed like 3 times and that was all when was older...lol I tried all the tricks to get him to bob - in the mirror, headbobbed my fingers at him, etc... but to no avail. When was around 5 he headbobbed the cardboard cat scratcher ... so maybe you could show him that
Glad Clovis is doing well, and hopefully the pinworms will be history soon!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
