I like to turn the fan on in my room when I sleep and I think that the temps would drop too low for my dubia to breed. Could I use a black light or would this disturb them gettin' it on if ya know what I mean! :laughing6: lol

Danny, we have tried and tested all nocturnal bulbs. I have always had a better reproduction rate with a heating pad of some type under the create side. As I have said in the past they need the night to day time. Hope this helps.. :D

I had that question as well... I was worried about it making the floor yellow.

The whole floor issue was making me more inclined to put the heat on the sides.

I have a under tank heater pad that works, but is losing it's stick, suggestions on getting it to stay?

Ive had them on hardwood floors and carpet with no problems. And if the sticky is wearing off you can go to your local hardware store and pick up a roll of heat vent tape. it is the chrome type you use on house hold HVAC. it helps hold the heat and is sticky not to mention is UL listed. Hope this helps.... :D

I use a human heating pad underneath my dubia bin, it gets the temp inside high enough to encourage breeding, but I don't have to worry about it getting too hot and damaging the carpet or whatever surface it is on. UTHs can get much hotter than many people realize, they've been known to heat up to 120 degrees, and there is also a chance of them malfunctioning and getting even hotter than that. If you're going to use an UTH, I would highly suggest buying an inexpensive dimmer switch from walmart or any hardware store and plugging it into that so you can control the amount of heat produced. You would need an accurate thermometer to measure temps to know how much to adjust the dimmer also. I wouldn't recommended any type of bulb to provide heat because dubia can see even the light produced by even the "night" bulbs which could cause stress since the bulb would constantly be on, plus they're going to dry out the the bin much more quickly, lowering the humidity, which you definitely don't want. And while you do want a constant heat source, you might not need to supplement as much heat as you think, anywhere in the high 80's--low 90's is fine. They'll still breed at temps lower than this, just more slowly.

Buy a wire rack from walmart to place your colony on top of and put the heating pad between the rack and the bottom of the tub - even with a human heat pad you must provide some sort of ventilation to prevent damage to the floor and heat pad.

I bid on a human one on eBay, and hope to win it in the next day or two. I have the UTH on there for now, just to make sure I have some heat in case they get here before the human heat one does. I could also see if someone has one I could have. My mother has one that gets HOT, like crazy hot. It is an OLD heating pad and I know I don't want that one!

I really am going with the cheapest options at the moment. I had the UTH and am testing the temps regularly with the temp gun.

I will see if I can get a metal rack to put it on and resolve to use the human heating pad. I will see about dimmer switch. Am I testing the temps on the WALL of the tub or the egg crates temps or BOTH?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
