beardy prolapeses when it goes to bathroom

I redcently started caring for a 2yr old female beardy that prolapses when it goes to the bathroom. I have to push it back inside..has anyone ever heard of this condition and is there any way to get this fixed.

Hi Leah.....does she do it every time, and is it alot of tissue that comes out ? How is her over all condition + activity and appetite like ? Can you post a pic of her ? If she's on a loose substrate, take it out ASAP. Some causes can include a heavy parasite load, dehydation and possibly even not enough calcium for good muscle function. For now, be sure to give her plenty of hydration....offer water orally with an eyedropper or needleless feeding syringe along with baths 2-3 times a week. It's good that you are able to pop it back in but it might really need a vet to put a stitch or two at both ends of her cloaca. Then don't feed her for about a week [ but offer water via syringe ] so it can hopefully heal, she won't strain to push out anything if she doesn't eat for a period of time and that can help it to heal.

She has seen the vet and is perfectly healthy otherwise. I got her from a breader that lost her home..she said she has been like that whole life...and yes every time she goes. I was just trying to explore further because they told her there was nothing she could do. I was thinking maybe a bath would help since she goes evry 2 days.thought it might help?

Hmmm, that's too bad because chronic prolapse is really a serious health problem. The vet says there's nothing they can do ? Can you find a more experienced vet ? If you Google LafeberVet.com prolapse in reptiles there's a lot of info as to the causes and types of prolapses as well as treatments. Extra hydration is always good, so definitely give baths. Always make sure the tissue is clean before you push it back, and be sure that her food items are smaller than usual. The dragon really needs an expert vet, in the mean time extra hydration may help just by making it easier to expel her wastes. But check the site that I mentioned and have your vet look at it as well. Best wishes for a good outcome !
