im looking into buying a bearded dragon but I heard it's not a good idea to buy from the big chain pet stores does anyone know where to buy one in the Lincoln Nebraska area?

Hi there....every store is different, look for healthy looking reptiles to make your determination. Or you can Google " Nebraska reptile expo" and see what shows will pop up. Look at the vendor lists on any of those sites to see if you can find beardie breeders. Or you can look to have one shipped from a reputable breeder anywhere in the country when the weather isn't too hot. Some breeders with good reps. are A-1 reptiles, Rainbow b.d's , Draggintails b.d.'s , Dachiu b.d.'s, Atomic lizard ranch....those are some of the oldest beardie breeders in the country.

I "adopted" my Gizmo from Petco the end of January 2015 & so far so good she has been healthy. Here she is at purchase about 6 1/2 - 7", and recently at about 17".

Just make sure you do your research & don't impulse buy one. Mine wasn't the biggest one available out of the lot they had, but she wasn't the runt either. She looked healthy; eyes, active etc but mainly she was the most socialized by two of the women employees who worked their because she was their favorite one out of the mix and that was really important to me.

I agree. It's critical to have a good setup going with proper lighting beforehand. Get your equipment purchased and set up, start a dubia colony if you're going that route, and have some cash on hand for food, supplies, medical care etc. down the line.

I'm pretty sure ReptiCon goes to Council Bluffs but I'm not sure when the next expo is. They go to Kansas City as well. As AHBD mentioned, you could have one shipped from one of the reputable breeders as well.

I found a breeder not too far...I'm not going to get one until I have everything set up..I'm going to start building it at the beginning of next month
