Bearded dragon ate 150mg of ibuprofen

Unfortunately my bearded dragon got ahold of an ibuprofen that somehow fell out of my purse (I know, I’m beating myself up hard right now you have no idea) but anyways I immediately took her to the vet and they weren’t able to give her activated charcoal until 3 hours AFTER she ate the pill. They also gave her subcutaneous fluids on both sides as well. It’s late at night and she hasn’t been under light or UV since she ate the pill around 6pm. It’s now 11pm and she seems to be okay while in her cage. I’m worried sick and hope that she makes it through the night. Has this ever happened to anyone else’s Beardie? Is there a chance she’ll be okay?

I'm sorry to hear this has happened to you and your beardie. @Drache613 is probably the best person to ask but she is on late at night.
That is a big dosage for a small creature, but if she isn't black bearding my gut thinks she'll be ok.
Please keep us posted.
What is her name? We root for every single beardie here and will send prayers and good vibes her way 🙂

Name is lief! I’m just worried about the light thing, do I keep the light on all night since she didn’t have a chance to metabolize anything yet?

No, it will just keep her from sleeping well and cause undo stress. 1 day without a lot of uvb won't harm them. I woukd keep her a few degrees warmer over night though.

Hello,

Yes, try to keep her a little warmer overnight to help her body metabolize it better. Try to get some activated charcoal into her also if you can.
If you don't have that, get some parsley, cilantro, mint, basil & oregano & make a paste with that or a slurry. Get a small amount of that into her to help absorb toxins as much as possible.

Let us know how she is doing.

She seems okay today but I’m still a little worried since this is the first time she has her lamps on since she ate the ibuprofen. The vet said I can take her in around noon to give her more subcutaneous fluids. Do you recommend that I do that? Also side note: the vet gave her MOST of the charcoal about 3 hours after ingesting the pill. She was able to consume 75% of the charcoal I’d say.

I’m also wondering if I should be giving her food this morning? Before she gets more iv fluids

I would, it might help her pass anything remaining of the ibuprofen on through her system. If she isn't black bearding or lethargic this morning she is probably going to be just fine 🙂.

No black beards or lethargy. If anything, they’ve been extremely energetic and restless. So I hope that’s an okay sign. She had a healthy looking bowel movement this morning too! They’re just worried about the kidneys and I heard that their metabolism is pretty slow. Do you know how long the ibuprofen would stay in their system for?

Honestly I can't answer that. AHBD or Drache613 might be able to tell you.

Hello,

Their metabolisms are rather slow. I am not
sure how long the Ibuprofen would stay in the
body. In comparison, most anesthetics tend to
stay in their body a few days so I would predict
around the same time frame.
You can expedite the metabolism to some extent by keeping her a little warmer overnight to help boost the system.
I think it's a great sign that she doesn't have a black beard or isn't lethargic.
The extra fluids are perfectly fine. Did you get her to eat anything today?

Let us know how she is doing.
