anyone with a healthy petco/petsmart dragon?

That is great, do you have one picked out? or are you gonna go down and pick it out on that particular day?

Getting a dragon from Petsmart local to me doesn't necessarily mean you will get a healthy or unhealthy one near you. These chain stores seem to do things different at each location. Just be vigilant about the dragon, hold it for a bit and make sure you are positive on the one you buy. If you want/need any pointers or tips for picking out a dragon just ask. :wink:

well thank you! and yea ive already got one picked out he is about 5-6 months old. they let me hold him today and he just laid on my shirt and let me pet it then he ran up to my shoulder! sooo freakin cute!! hes alert active just over all healthy looking

I have one from Petco but I bought him as a baby. He seems healthy. He finally started pigging out today but from day one he has been active outside the tank. Very curious little guy. Good luck! Can't wait to see pics!

Hey, I got a beardie at Petco. Not a nipped tail or toe on the little guy. Seems to me like most of the beardies I've seen at Petco or Petsmart are healthy enough, provided they find a proper home asap. I hate to see the dragons in those conditions at the pet store chains too long. As long as you've had a good experience at the store and have been eyeing a dragon that looks healthy, I say don't worry a bit. I think a lot of great dragons come out of these chains. My guy from Petco is the sweetest thing ever. And I wouldn't want to take him back, however after learning more about the dragons and what they need to be healthy, I don't believe in supporting these businesses anymore when it comes to their live animals. I'd rather have just gone to Petco or Petsmart for lights and emergency supplies and whatnot and spent my money supporting a quality breeder who really gives the dragons all the TLC they need during their infancy. But again, I did get mine from Petco, and I am oh so happy with him...

Ohh, and yes he's very healthy. Bowel movement everyday. Wonderful appetite for crickets, 5 or so superworms a day (he's 18 inches long now), and eats a lot of greens, sometimes twice a day if he didn't eat enough greens IMO the night before... Haven't taken him to the vet yet or had fecal test for parasites. I'll do this once his Dubia Colony is well established and I can get him off crickets.

My male beardie "Spike" is a Petco beardie. He is 24.5 inches long, weighs over 650g, and is 4 years old. He's also 100% healthy.

Not all beardies from chain stores are in poor condition, just gotta be careful when picking them.

Darwin is from Petsmart, and he's gone from 6" to 16.25" in about 4 months. They tend to be feistier than beardies from good breeders (less socialization), but he's calming down now.

I had one from petco. Looked good when I picked her but she died after 3 days. No idea why. Was not long enough for bad UVB bulb to harm her like that, she ate 2 of the days, just woke up on the third day and she was "gone". Poor thing . They gave me a refund and I went to the two mom and pop type shops near me. One had an older grey dragon for more than I had. The other shop had 2 "regulars" and 3 "red x oranges" The "fancy" ones were $5 more than I had total. So I peeked in the "regular" cage. It was kind of funny, this little scamp, all of 7 inches was dominating this cute 9 inch one who kept tilting her head and winking at me! I asked to see her and it was Love from then on! Oh sorry lol, got off subject. Phantom, the one from Petco was only like 5 inches long. Teeny little thing. I recommend getting one at least 8.5 inches long.

I got Grisha from Petsmart last year in May, I picked the largest and most active one in the group. He's a big boy and I haven't had any problems with him(knock on wood!)!

My husband and I got Yoshi from Petsmart on August 2nd of this year. We went in about once a week for about 3 weeks before we got him. Every time we would go over to where they were kept, he would come over to the glass and look at us. He was the biggest and most dominant of them all. He looked the healthiest and most alert also. We've had him for about a month and is seeing more of his personality. He loves when daddy hand feeds him crix, but also enjoys the hunt. He absolutely LOVES reptiworms. We usually put about 30 in a bowl and they are gone in less than 5 minutes. lol Yoshi loves to explore will try to run to do so when ever he gets a chance.
We love our little Yoshi so much.
Sorry for going off track. Just wanted to tell you a little bit of hour our dragon is even though he was got at Petsmart.
