Some of my adult beardies had tail rot. I got antibiotic from a vet and it controled it, but now they're feet have the same thing. One of them has their feet almost gone. What do I do?

Hello,

Good grief, what do you mean, "some" of your adult dragons have tail rot & now they are missing their feet?
Exactly how many dragons do you have housed together & how large is your enclosure?

My immediate recommendations are if they are housed together, please separate them now, as they will never get better with tail rot & infection in the feet. They are most likely chewing & biting each other.

You will need to clean the areas off with betadine & continue treating the areas with antibiotic ointment on the areas to help with infection.

I have them in a 235 gallon tank. It's 7ft. long and 2 ft. wide. They are 4 dragons and have never had any problems or fights. One of my beardies' toes on his front right foot are all completely gone. It looks alot like tail rot. I've had them for 4 years and never had a problem. Not sure what to do as this situation is heartbreaking. I thank you for all your advice.

It really sounds like they are chewing on each other :( . For the safety of all of them they need to be immediately seperated.

Hey there!

I would really take the advice of the others on seperating them. The infection will just continue to spread if they are kept together.... it will, realistically, go round and round in circles so even if one begins to clear up, its only a matter of time before the infection takes a hold again. As you have said, its a heartbreaking situation. Perhaps they are not biting on each other but you need to eliminate that possibility.

Your viv is a good size so there is no reason why you couldnt put a divider up in the middle and house one dragon on each side of it with one basking bulb on each side. For the other 2 dragons you could set up temporary enclosures using 2 seperate rubbermaid containers with a light suspended above each until you can get something else sorted for them. Remove any loose substrate and house them on paper towel for the time being which can be replaced daily. I would even consider removing any viv furniture and scrubbing it before replacing it with cardboard boxes until any infection present starts to clear up.

As Tracie said, use a betadine solution to bathe them and the antibiotic ointment - from personal experience, it works wonders for cleaning up injuries and eliminaing infection.
I hope your beardies start getting better soon!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
