Has anyone trained their beardie to not fear nail polish?

Haha, I've heard a lot of people say similar things about certain colours. I'm sure some beardies must think delicious food when they see nail polish. Guess I just have a weird dragon

Has anyone trained their beardie to not fear nail polish?

I had considered the smell, because I find it quite strong myself. But after trying clear nail polish and putting my hands in near him with no problems, I figured it must be just the colour itself and not the smell. Haha, I guess you don't wear purple or blue that often then! Brox never tries...

Has anyone trained their beardie to not fear nail polish?

It's interesting, he definitely doesn't think they're food. He responds as though he's threatened, with their natural response to predators, including the beard and turning his body up in order to appear bigger than the predator. He doesn't attempt to bite, either, generally he will bolt if I...

Has anyone trained their beardie to not fear nail polish?

Unfortunately, while clear nail polish works for him, it doesn't for me. I scratch it off within hours, and start biting again. I need to figure out how to make him okay with colours, because it's the only way I can kick my biting habit. Thanks for the suggestion, though :)

Has anyone trained their beardie to not fear nail polish?

So, my beardie is a super friendly guy. He never bites, or gets upset at me for anything. Except nail polish. As soon as I paint my nails, he turns into the Hulk. Black beards, puffs out, turns himself up like he thinks my fingers are suddenly predators. The problem I have is I'm a nail...

Was given TOO many crickets that are WAY too big! Help!

Your beardie is very cute :D You can try things like shelf liner, tiles, newspaper, blankets, paper towel as a substrate. Any loose substrate like sand, wood chips or rocks can be swallowed and can cause impaction. Even if you only see a few grains, those grains may not be passed and remain...

New "Bearded Dragon" Rescue Day... and the husband :O

He has certainly come a long way from the poor little guy you brought home. You've done a great thing for him :D His planned viv looks fantastic!

    Khaesael has a bruised stomach...

She is tiny, but no smaller than most are when they're purchased. Her colours are actually surprisingly bright, I've seen my boy go much darker when he's grumpy. But she doesn't look well :( Did you try rubbing her tummy? And how is the lump on her stomach? Is it any more or less pronounced?

    Khaesael has a bruised stomach...

You're doing what you can for her, that's what matters. It's not your fault that you were told the wrong thing. I hope she feels better soon, sounds as though she's hanging in there. Any chance you could post some pictures of her so we can have a look at what you're dealing with? Someone with...

    Khaesael has a bruised stomach...

You don't know where they bought their beardie, and you have no idea what they were told when they did buy it. Criticising them for not doing something they had no idea to do isn't helping anyone. It is horrible, but that doesn't make it the owner's fault. If you aren't going to be helpful, why...

    Khaesael has a bruised stomach...

No problem :D So much negativity on the internet, and you are here trying to help your beardie, so you're alright by me. It's clear you know a bit about beardies, as you have most everything else right, your temps are good and you actually have lights. I've had people look at me like I'm nuts...

    Khaesael has a bruised stomach...

Thanks :D You are definitely right about beardies being marketed as inexpensive. It's ridiculous. Anyone selling them needs to be realistic about their keeping costs, because it's unfair to the buyer and the animal when they get home and find out they're going to be spending hundreds of dollars...

    Khaesael has a bruised stomach...

Give it a rest, would you? Apologising for being rude doesn't make it any less rude. Just because they made a mistake without realising it, that doesn't mean you have the right to get all high and mighty. There is so much conflicting information and misinformation, why is it so surprising that...

How to keep the humidity down?

They are fantastic, aren't they :D I don't regret my boy for a second, even if he does eat enough to make me broke. Great to hear she's looking healthier, she'll be growing like a weed before you know it! She started early on her greens, I couldn't get Brox to touch them for months. Good luck...

Fellow new beardie owners: Let's thank the forum!

Definitely. The things I have read on here were invaluable. Thanks to all the people who have been offering advice, I'm so glad I found this site because I would've had a beardie in a tank with sand an a coil bulb if I didn't :?

How to keep the humidity down?

Firstly, she is adorable! Beardies don't need an extreme amount of hydration. A bath every third day should be sufficient, and stretching it to four or five is possible (but I wouldn't recommend it myself) Leave the water dish out if her humidity is too high, it's not worth risking a respiratory...

Do you guys really feed three times a day?

How old is he, and how long have you had him? It's a good sign that he still appears healthy, but keep in mind they are tough animals and can survive a lot of hardship, getting sicker even though they still seem perfectly fine. How large is he? Are your crickets smaller than the space between...

    Beardie Threw up

How big are the crickets you fed him? Their crickets should be no bigger than the space between their eyes, any larger can cause problems. He may not have been able to digest them if they were too large for him. An infrared light is not good for a bearded dragon, they thrive off the brightness...

    Hilarious beardie adventure!

Haha, oh that must have been fantastic to watch! Talk about a source of entertainment. Poor Tashi :) Did she get her crickets in the end?

    New beardie owner

Congrats on the new additions, firstly. As adults, they should be getting a good amount of vegetables to balance their diet. Feeding crickets once a day, and make sure they have greens always available. http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html website that will tell you which are the best...
