Short answer; *never*. :)

Type in ~sand~ in the search field above and read the posts about sand.
Can cause impaction
Horrible substrate to keep clean and impossible to sanitize. There are more reasons LOL

How about never? Sand is a major problem. Do that search and read. You would be doing your beardie a HUGE disservice by using sand as a substrate. Good luck! :study: :study:

We never use sand at any age. I have seen too many customers with dead dragons (both adults and babies) impacted on sand that promises to be safe. My advice, like many, is to stick with reptile carpet, tile, or paper.

If you insist on using sand, use playsand, wait until the dragon is a year old, and feed them in a seperate enclosure. Change it often because it is just a giant litterbox harboring parasites. It gets very smelly quickly. It is more of a hassel than it is worth so I cannot stress how much you really should not use it or any loose particle substrate.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
