MY beardie just pooped. His poopie part looked quite "dry", I guess you could say, and his urates looked like this....

What on Earth is this?

Hmmmm. I have only seen those with chameleons. I never thought of that. Whatever it is, after he passed it, he went into his hide and has not come out. ???

Thanks. Someone else said it looks like he is passing full sized dead worms. What does anyone think?

I have decided to start him on reptaid XL and see what happens. He is eating fairly regularly, getting adequate hydration, and is not losing any weight (he seems to be gaining actually). Any further advice (aside from going to get a fecal)?

Hi there,

Was your dragon on reptaid before he made this poo, or is this poo the reason for you wanting to start reptaid?

Sorry, the reptaid has not even arrived yet. My dragon has been having different symptoms over the past few weeks. In the time waiting for a fecal sample to bring to the vet (when it was opened...you cant believe how my beardie's timing stinks..no pun intended) I have been trying to rule things out and ended up ordering some reptaid. I should have it by Wed. and will probably start with a double does, as recommended by Elliot.

Well make sure you are giving daily 20 minute baths.

I was using less than the recommended dose with my girl and had to keep with daily 20 minute soaks just to keep her semi-hydrated.

How often ishe pooping? I've seen similar 'oddities' with one of my boys when he hasn't gone potty for a while. I concluded it was old food etc clearing from his system.

Thanks for the replies!

My beardie poops every three days recently. Also, regarding the hydration, I give baths at least weekly. For what it is worth, when I brought up the dehydration theory regarding reptaid to those that sell it, I was told that reptaid does not cause the dehydration, but it is due to the beardie's isckness in general. Nevertheless, extra hydration is always a good thing.

I can guarantee you its not due to the dragons sickness.

First off my dragon wasn't really sick, and her urates were soft and normal with bi weekly baths. Once she got started on the reptaid, i noticed her urates becoming hard and chalky (signs of dehydration) and had to give her daily baths just to keep with a semi soft urate.

One of the ingredients in reptaid is extremely dehydrating on the system, I forgot exactly what it is let me check my box to get the correct ingredient...

Oh thats right, Pau D'acro was the ingredient.
That is pretty tough on the system, which is why I don't like how reptaid is said to be an all natural remedy, implying that its easy and safe on the system. It has some pretty harsh stuff in it. Mainly the Pau D'acro.

Thanks for all the replies. That would be great. Bad intestine???? Huh?? Could that happen? Wouldnt that kill him?

Now I have heard five different theories on what that could be. He pooped a smaller version of the same thing yesterday and then today....his poop was totally normal, even the consistency. Crazy. I brought the sample over to the vet and am awaiting the fecal results. Thorin continues to eat regularly and is actually beginning a small shed. His weight seems fairly normal (9 months old - almost 290 g.) I have seen seminal plugs often in chameleons I have owned, and they did look similar to that nasty looking thing in the pic. I have also seen passed worms looking that way too. I am stumped. Any help is appreciated...

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
