Dragons take a lot of care and attention when they are young. If you want a cheap dragon goto a pet store and pay $100. Most likely a trip to the vet will be your next stop to treat it for parasites, infections etc. Add that into the price add the medication too.
Breeders take care of these animals at great expense and make sure they are healthy which can costs a lot of $$.

I know from just getting a dragon a few weeks ago how much it costs to properly care for a dragon and I have an adult. I would think it would cost at least twice as much to care for a baby if not more. My girl cost way more than I thought it would but it is well worth it and she deserves a great home. This is another reason...if everyone was selling them at rock bottom prices people would buy them and not take care of them the way the should which would be horrible, if someone is willing to spend $225+ for a healthy dragon chances are they are going to give it the home they deserve.

No kidding!

Teddy, a PetCo beardie, has cost us over five hundred dollars by now in vet bills alone!

i agree with you Damkat thats true if people pay for a cheap dragon they surely wont take care of it as they really should but dont get me wrong now there are also alot of people who will take care if a cheap payed for dragon i know for sure i would no doubt

Do any of the breeders on here sell at that show? Maybe TND Dragons would have been there before, since I'm pretty sure that they are in the Pennsylvania area, and I think that's close-ish to MD. (Or maybe Im completely off and I just need to look at a map again... Its late, LOL)

I Googled it, and there doesnt seem to be much info on what breeders are going to be selling there. I guess you'll just have to go and find out! :) When is it?

As a lot of people have said, breeders put a lot of time and money into making sure they produce the best quality dragon possible. It's very similar to dogs- you could get a dog from a shelter and not know its heritage, possible having to pay thousands of dollars in vet bills for a congenital disorder it inherited from its mother. Or, you could buy a dog from a reputable breeder (not saying puppy mill or backyard breeder or ignorant fool who didn't spay/neuter their animal and it had a litter that's ready for sale) and know that it will be a healthy dog. Don't get me wrong- I'm all for shelters and rescues, but you have to know what you're getting into, and if you want a healthy, good "quality" dog with a predictable temperament you need to know the lineage. I have a rescued dachshund who cost us 100 dollars to adopt, but over 12 years she has had so many health problems that it has cost us well over 10,000 dollars. On the other hand, I bought a mini labradoodle whose parents were health tested and guaranteed and she has not had a single problem.

On the other OTHER hand, I have 2 bearded dragons from Petsmart and they are both healthy and happy. My Petsmart is a lot cleaner and more knowledgeable than most, though. I also have a rehomed dragon and a dragon from a reputable breeder and neither of them has any problems either.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
