The Life and Times of Helen Hawking, dbnr

I first noticed Helen Hawking in a classifieds ad, looking for a fellow companion in a lonely world. Her piece sang to me and one picture in particular caught my eye.

I felt that I had found a kindred spirit, someone with the same zest and zeal for life that I possessed. We spoke at first through an intermediary before finally deciding to meet. She came to me in a rather unorthodox fashion- boxed up and restrained.

But we quickly found common ground and chatted a bit over a light meal.

Something I said must have disturbed her however, because she cut our talk short and scuttled over to a corner, seeking solitude in an unfamiliar environment and leaving me to clean up what was left of her lunch.

Ok well if you click the picture it'll take you to the video. This was a feeding this morning and about 3 seconds after I turned the camera off, she jumped back on her brick which is pretty adorable as well and I had hoped to catch on video. But it gives you a rough idea of her fast and slow mode. She hates being watched while she eats and so while I got ready for work, she ate the rest of the roaches.

I don't know why the audio is so loud, so please feel free to turn it down or off. It's just the TV, but bonus points if someone can identify the show I was watching at the end :wink:

Happy Holidays all!

HH is doing very well and is active and bright eyed as ever! She is still quite the little piggy, loving her veggies just as much as her dubia.

She even had a little meet and greet with my new kitty today. It ended rather abruptly, though, when Sansa tried to take a little nibble out of her tail. She honestly didn't think that HH would have missed it!

Too bad Sansa decided that HH didn't need her tail. Maybe their next meet-n-greet will go better.

So we had an exciting afternoon so far. Today was cleaning day for both tanks and I had decided to finally get rid of the aspen chips in Darwin's tank. I drew a bath for him and on my way to the sink, my cat, Sansa, ran up and started meowing at Darwin. I figured there would be no harm in letting them meet :roll: and Darwin was considerably larger than HH, so I put him on the ground and Sansa started to sniff at him. She then proceeded to raise a paw and gently bat at his head. Darwin, being the pacifist he is, tried to warn her to back off by puffing up and bearding. When she tried it again, he blackbearded and scuttled off into a corner filled with random junk (you can see the poo on his tail I had wanted to brush off):

At this point, I had almost literally tossed my cat out of the room and was just trying to get Darwin calm enough to pick up and take to his bath. He evaded me and scooted under my bed where he hung out. I figured I'd give him some time to cool off so I cleaned out his cage and went back about 15 minutes later. He resisted any efforts to pick him up and, after another 5 minutes, I finally tossed a hand towel at his back and picked him up squirming. After I had managed to get him back in his tank, he did this:

Which made me realize the inside of his throat is yellow:

And since this is HH's thread, here's a picture of her chilling, completely oblivious to the drama outside her tank:

She's doing quite well although her appetite has slowed somewhat, perhaps due to the on again, off again cold weather. Now that I have a picture of her against the temp probe, she really hasn't grown much despite the havoc she's wreaking on the dubia colony.
