we have to lift the basking light higher, the rock is 8 and a half inches away and in a matter of 15 mins the temp reaches 130 degrees. Spitfyre is going to draw me up a cool basking area.Auswald":25e4vkqh said:My only suggestion would be swapping the rock from the left corner and put it in the right corner where the hide is so your beardie can get closer to its basking lamps!

Check out the wood of the Cholla Cactus. If you like the look of it, i'll send you a piece. It grows here in AZ all over the place. Only takes us about an hour to hike in and and find a decent chunk of wood from a dead one.

Wow thats actually pretty awesome! Any chance you would sell pieces?

Good luck with the sales if you decide to do it...I'm not that ambitious...lol. Love the idea though. I like the more natural, earthy look.
and Stephanie... love the new viv. It looks like a vacation house. Can't wait to see pics of your new family addition.
Our tank is 40gal. Do I need a hard top or just a screen? Im using zoo med 75watt. Insted of using the hood, what do you think of me hanging the uvb tube inside that cage and using a dome lamp and clamp it to the side ? Would she jump on the uvb tube?sweetiepie9":1rap7sab said:Yes, because of the fixture for your lights. Also because she's a baby, she'll be able to jump out of the tank really easily. Once you get her into a bigger tank, my guys all have 40 gallon breeders, when she's older and not so likely to jump out, you can get a fixture to put the UVB into the tank, that way she gets full UVB. The top can block some of the UVB, but living in Florida you can make her an outside tank, with smaller mesh & she can get full sunlight, which is great for beardies.
I use power sun mercury vapour lights & I don't use tops. I have them on lampstands & in domes. I also have adults, so they're not as likely to jump out of their tanks & their "furniture" is low to the ground. Here's an example:
Rubio, my biggest dragon (he's 22" long & 779g) is in a 75 gallon tank, because he just walked out of the 40 gallon he was in a couple of years ago, so he can't get out of the tank he's in now!
If there's anything else you need to know, just ask. The only other thing I was going to mention is to make sure the basking spot is 105F (ask Cheryl what she suggests), so instead of making the basking lower, you should get a lower wattage light. I always used a regular household bulb, especially in smaller tanks when they were little. You have a good temp gauge, right, digital probe or temp gun, as the other types aren't accurate at all. The 130F you mentioned is too high a temp for your little one. What basking light are you using & what th wattage? You're going to have to fool around with the lighting, as the basking/hide that you're using is perfect, but if the temps are too high, she'll just move to the cooler side all the time, which won't be good for her digestion. The heat is to help her digest & the UVB light is to help her digest, too & grow.
Getting soon, keep me posted.
