Shiro's great adventures

So I would like to introduce my new baby beardie, Shiro (it means white in Japanese) becuase he or she is a white hypo beardie.

Really happy to have him/her and I hope questions and answers on this post will help other people that have a baby beardie.

To kick it off she/he is stunning and very cheeky already! Took dubia from my hand without blinking and jumped onto her hammock and is happily watching her new tank.

So far so good and vet check next week and every six months from there on.

My beautiful girl Tengu will be sadly missed but she taught me a lot and she will always be in my heart and memories, RIP Tengu chan we love you so much.

Yes, that's me! I'm a little older lady, will be 61 this month, so not getting younger but feeling better as went to the chiro today.

I'll be looking forward to hearing her weight and can you do her length, too?

I'm just being lazy today. I'm resting my back and will take Bella for a walk after I eat lunch. That's one thing about dogs, you have to walk them. I try for 3x a day but in the rain it's 2x a day. She's ok with that.

Yes I will measure her as well. I know she will do her business as soon as her tail touches the water. I'm ready for it! I will let her do that at the bathroom and then I will put the bath box in the sun so she can have open air bath lol

Before bath she is 121g and 33cm

She is cutttently attached to me by her claws hahahahahahaha

She didn't appreciate the open air bath LOL maybe too cold for her. So indoors we went and she had a soak while I hung the washing. Took her out and she climbed to my shoulder quicker than.... something very fast!

She loves a hug that's for sure very cute and so big now!!! I can't believe it. Where has my 6g girl gone?!? 4 months old and gained 115g in 2 months. Well she's healthy and happy and growing well so all good. January is health check so that will be interesting. The reptile vet is amazing!!! Full blood work showing everything. It's so interesting!!!!

Wow, 121g? She's growing so much now and I bet eating more and more of the larger sized dubia you're giving her. so 13" in my language, she's doing really well! Getting bigger every day.

Imp used to run up my front to get onto my shoulder, as quick as can be. He still does it but not as quick as he once was. And he's the same, loves hugs.

She's such a great part of your life, so glad you picked her!

And thank you, 61 isn't a small age :mrgreen: but it has it's advantages.

Sooooooo glad I picked her!!! It was a risk for me as first time having a baby baby. Younger than that is egg LOL but what experience I've gained and amazing difference bond wise on her side I can say.

Now she enjoys sitting on the floor of the tank and "standing up" on the basking rock. Must be a comfy temp there.

121g!!!!! I was surprised this morning by that and her length. She does have a beautiful full length tail and she knows it LOL

i'm being lazy but seeing doc today, plus visiting my parents, so time to get up & do dragons and feed all the bugs.

yesterday I saw something I wish I didn't

Pet shop has started selling reptiles and the tanks were too small for the beardies and they all looked unwell and this next bit will shock you...............

The bottom of the tank where we put pet sheets, paper etc well they had put......... AN INCH OF WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF WTF WTF heat lamp on that all day equals HUMIDTY big time. The only thing they had in the tank was a bendy piece of plastic like a bridge. WORST set up I have ever seen in my life. I said WTF basically and they just didn't answer me. I will report them

I was just going to ask you to report them, so glad you're going to do that. That is awful what they're trying to get away with.

I have some bad news, I lost Imp on Wednesday and still haven't found him. I'm trying to keep the house really warm for him. Couldn't look on the weekend because of the kids, but will be checking everywhere again tomorrow. Even checked my closet, under the dresser, all the other furniture. I have a feeling I know where he is, so will check when Eric leaves about 3 to take the kids to his in-laws, they're keeping them tonight. And hopefully I'm right.

I'll let you know tomorrow if I find him or not. I have a feeling that he decided to find some hidey hole and brumate again. He'd only had 1 day of food since he woke up last time. I hope I'm right, then he'd be used to the cooler temps in the living room.

Gabriel has been in his tank all weekend because I don't take him out when the kids are around, Leo is ok alone for a bit but Safara likes to poke, I guess to see if he's alive.

Other than that, my stomach is acting up again. I took painkillers, so everything is calming down. It's my back, seeing chiro tomorrow and have taken more than usual painkillers in the last week.

Oh no!!

Imp has done a runner and hiding!!! They are so sneaky!!!

Shiro has his days when he wants to hide but I have to keep an eye on him in case he disappears and the cat gets him! I keep them seperate for now. It ifni lose him it will be very bad! Fun for the cat but that isn't going to happen.

I really hope you found him.

I had to laugh at Safara likening to poke Gabriel LOL I can just imagine his face!!!!

Gabriel was not impressed with the poking at all. So now he's snuggled up on my shoulder as my son and the kids left 2 hrs ago, the kids are going to the other grandparents for the night.

It's so nice and quiet tonight and I'll have time to get some chores done. It's feeding night for the cresties, a bit later.

And no, I haven't found Imp yet, I have all week to find him now. I'll triple check all the usual hiding places and start taking other areas apart to see if he wedged himself in somewhere. I'm so hoping he didn't get out the front door, but I think I would have heard about that.

So Shiro is a he, definitely now? Congrats! And no, it wouldn't be any fun for him with your cat. Some cats are ok with dragons but only supervised and not for long.

Oh no he must be somewhere. I really hope you find him. They are so quick and sneaky!!!

This morning the kitten was flying around the room chasing the cardboard tube of a toilet roll. Shiro was at the front of the tank watching him. His face was priceless LOL a speech bubble would be "stupid cat"

I am 90% sure he's a he I need to take a picture to show you LOL maybe later so tomorrow for you.

Is there anything that draws out beardies? Like a roach running around or a smell of something etc??

I've lost dragons before in this apartment, they seem to find ways to hide that I have trouble finding sometimes. I'll give the whole place a going over. Worries me because I have another mouse in the house. Saw it flying across the living room and getting behind the dragon tanks, but Imp can't be back there, it's too small a space and if he is back there, there's nothing I can do. The furniture the tanks are on is solid wood, so can't be moved...sigh...he has to be here somewhere! I'll let you know. And for sure I'll let you know about Shiro, too. You have to lift his tale up almost 90 degrees and you'll be able to tell yourself. If there's a bump right above the vent, then it's a girl. If there is a lump along the sides of the tail above the vent, then it's a boy, but send a picture anyway.

I can't even use the light on the ramp because it blew out and I can't afford to get another one right away. I'm going to put a his light on the ramp, see if I can get him out that way, he loves the ramp! I'll do that tonight, seeing as I'll be on my own I'm really appreciating time on my own again!
