Setting up a Mega Ray

Wasn't sure that this is a good idea so I'm asking for suggestions before I cut the top of the enclosure I'm building. I was thinking of cutting a hole for the dome fixture and allowing the bulb of the megaray stick out into the enclosure a few inches. This would allow me to build a basking area for Gizmo about 8" off the bottom of the enclosure. The enclosure is 4x2x2. Here is a drawing of what I was thinking of doing.

Or do you think I should mount the bulb inside the enclosure?

I make my enclosures with removeable tops for the use of mega ray or mvb bulbs. I also drill holes in some to mount the light from above like you have in your pic. The important thing is to make sure the highest point your beardie can reach is still within the minimum distance allowed for the mega ray. I have mine about 14-16 inches and provides a basking spot about 105-110. I included a pic of one of my enclosures unfortunatly couldn't find any with the lids on(take he lids off during the hotter months).

here is another one with the lights on top not the best pic this was when I first took the top off the lights actually sit on wooden runners that go across the top of the tank so the light shines straight down. If you look close you can see the florescent light is on them in this pic....

i did mine like that - it works great - look in the all DIY pics post for a pic of my setup - if you stay in a hot area during summer and have the bulb mounted inside the cage you will find you have issues regulating the temps.
