I wouldn’t. Sand can cause impaction, the risk is even higher with baby dragons
Better long term options would be tile or linoleum. I use Lino and love it. It’s real easy to clean and looks great too.
A good short term option to start off with if you haven’t got a better substrate before you get the baby is to just use paper towels

Any loose substrate can be ingested, avoiding ingestion is the goal. Impaction is very dangerous, it can cause paralysis and/or death in bad cases.

It is great that you are doing your research before you get your dragon, KUDOS my friend!!!

Those sand mats look good but, even those particles can become loose and, cause issues. I thought about doing those a couple of years ago and, decided against it because the stuff shook loose in the package at the store. I don't take any type of risks with my dragons, (past, present or, future). It is our job (once we get them) to give them the best possible lives that we can.

I always use rough textured floor tile (cut to fit), It doesn't promote bacteria/fungus, easy to clean and, keeps their nails trimmed. Vinyl flooring works too, doesn't keep their nails trimmed but does all the other benefits. There are others like nonadhesive shelf liner, paper towels or newsprint. These are the only things I would even consider for a substrate!!! Safety above all else is my goal, I take no chances!

Here's how to safely use sand: Toss it in the trash. That's the safest way for it or any loose substrate.

I use smooth Slate tile and paper towels for my dragons. It's safe, sanitary, easy to use and clean, and Looks nice. My dragons love them.

I completely agree. Safety and my dragons wellbeing is my #1 Priority. When I try something new I Watch how it works VERY closely.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
