So first, don't worry I don't plan on buying Cali sand or any of the other notrious substrates for killing beardies. I have read on here that play sand properly washed is ok. I took my dragon down to my Aunts a few weeks ago while on Vacation and let her run outside (my aunt lives in the desert in SoCal). She LOVED it. She had been moping around after waking up from brumation and wouldn't eat. One trip outside and she perked right up and was eating again. It probably had more to do with the heat than the sand, but when I put her in the sand she ran around and checked things out more than when she was on the concrete patio.
Since she has a new gigantic cage (it was previously used for a large snake and is 6ft long) I thought it might be cool to give her a sand pit. I have read they like to dig themselves into the sand so it would be just big enough for that. I plan on using tile for most of the floor. I want her to have as much stimulation as possible in her cage since I go through busy times and can't always take her out to play (I'm in the military so hours are erratic).
So, good idea as long as I stick with play sand or would you not risk it?
On a side note, if you have a uninterested dragon and the vet can't give you a reason why go on a trip to Souther California and visit the desert! hehe
