I would disagree. Because the soil mixture allows the dragon to stay well hydrated, there is not the risk of impaction in my opinion. I, and others, have kept dragons on bioactive soil for years. It is more complex than just mixing a bit of soil and sand together, but it can be very rewarding.

I agree with Mistyck that particulate substrates can cause health problems like impaction. I have yet to see anyone endorse loose substrates on this forum and most condemn them for the health of the beardie.

I heard of a product that sounds awesome you might be interested in. I plan on getting it for Kadaj next month. It's called Exo-Terra Sand Mat. It looks like loose sand but it's actually not. And supposedly easy to clean. Anyone else heard of this and is it good? For now, we are using newspaper as a safe substrate. The only downer besides being the ugliest possible substrate is crickets can hide in it so easily.

The sand on the mat actually comes off rather easily, in my opinion. I was debating on it :)

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
