My beardie is 6 months old. I have had one person at a pet store tell me you should not start them on roaches until they are and adult... any thoughts?

Hi there, please don't listen to what the pet store employee said. I wouldn't suggest feeding the adult roaches to a 6 mo old but you can certainly feed the small or medium sized ones. The adults roaches are harder to chew and would probably take a little longer to digest, but the smaller sizes should be fine for your 6 mo old. Dubia are a great feeder, no climbing, no smell and easy to take care of and they breed very quickly.

diane, I might be wrong but I think she meant that the pet store said not to feed roaches until the beardie is an adult, not the roaches. I had to read it twice myself, lol.

yes, the pet store said until the beardie was an adult... but from what i am reading the response covered both that young dragons could eat young dubias and that older dragons could eat older dubias. am i correct in that interpretation?

Hi, just wanted to drop in my .25 worth. I have two infants (just now turning 11 weeks) and a 9 month old, and I have fed them roaches, turks, lobs, and dubias from the get go. Same rule of thumb goes for the roaches as with crickets, no longer than the distance between the dragons' eyes.
Roaches pack more nutrition and protein in them than a cricket will, gut loaded !
Also, since I have 3 different species of roaches, they have variety, and the best part ? NO SMELL ! *giggle*.
The Turks and the Lobs move FAST ! That said, remember, they Move Fast and breed Fast ! Easy to keep a colony going while feeding out of it.
Hope this helps you out !
Janie.
