Hi Lesley,

For future reference, you do not want to use Hydrogen Peroxide anymore.
From your post I couldn't tell if you did, or if you were just thinking about it.

This is true. Hydrogen peroxide is not good for healing tissue. Good catch, Brandon.

crap - I did use it - my instinct was to clean anything out that had gotten in/around the sutures - (It's not an open wound/sore type) - I forgot to post those pictures from after I took the bandage off didn't I? - I'll have to do that when I get home.

Isn't the H2O2 to clean out wounds? why isn't it okay for a reptile wound? Please teach me wise ones

It can eat away at their scales and flesh.

I can't find you any articles on it but perhaps Tracie can shed some light on it for you?
I don't know the science about it, I just know not to use it.

When I worked for a surgeon the big rule was to tell people not to use hydrogen peroxide on healing wounds and surgical sites. For a fresh boo-boo it is okay to help clean it out but it is too hard on healing tissues to use. Does more harm than good. You should clean a wound out with sterile water or saline.

small update:

Yesterday I noticed him flicking his tongue for the first time (licking his lip) so I decided to try the chicken baby food - I put it on his mouth and he licked - he seemed to like it because his licking increased but then it was like he forgot how to lick or was too tired to lick his lips I'm not sure - I had to keep reminding him. I also tried some dandelion greens on him - he ate a bit but didn't seem to be familiar with eating greens.

At one point he scurried away from me - almost standing on all fours - I was beginning to worry that he couldn't stand/was semi paralyzed - but based on what he just did I think he'll be fine! :blob5: :D

As I was holding him in my usual hand feeding beardie pose (his chest and front arms in my left hand leaned against me) - I noticed that a couple of his fingers on his left hand were twitching which I thought was odd - is twitching a sign of anything? (I thought I remember reading it somewhere.. not sure)

but anyway - when he gets his energy back and can run away from me I'm in trouble when it comes to force feeding him... hopefully by then I won't have to force him. He has NO trust for me yet. I have a feeling he was rarely handled...

I am off to do my many other slave duties - I had to go buy more hand towels for the new dragon for bathing/feeding/handling time -because I was running out too quick - so slave duties now include LAUNDRY too - B & E need their tanks scrubed - the hornworms walking all over their tanks made a mess

Whoo-hoo on the weight gain! :blob8:
This is going to sound really weird, but when I need my babies to lick, I lick and smack my lips so they get the idea. Works more often than not.

I am so glad to hear that he is gaining some weight. Certainly part of that is proper hydration. When he starts to look better and brighter, post up some pics. It would be nice to see how he looks as he is feeling better. :D

And I feel ya for the $$$ you just spent. I took in a rescue a few days after Christmas, which is traditionally a very poor time for me. It was a huge sacrifice, not only for all his set-up items, lights, etc but also all the special needs supplements. And you had to pay a vet for surgery...that has to have been expensive. :| :silent:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
