I spoke to a few members about this as well, and here is the general answer i have gotten. They need the lamp for around 12hr a day, to simulate sunlight and gain it's effects for natural growth. If you have them out and they are sleeping, it should be fine as long as your room temps are good. It's actually good to take your dragon outside for around 30 min a day in the natural sunlight, as the bulbs only simulate, but will not replace.

So in short, you don't have to worry as long as they get the light for 12hr a day. Bring em out with you sometimes in the day :)

I read somewhere that if you're taking them outside for the sun 30-60 minutes a day then you need to give them a different supplement without D3.

Really? Wow, another reason why i like this place, you can get info from people without asking a question haha. Thanks for the tip, i don't want to get her sick by trying to keep her healthy!

The natural sunlight helps your dragon make vitamin D. If your dragons are not regularly in the direct sunlight, then give calcium with d3 and no phosphate.

I don't leave my dragons in their cages all day. They need two hours after a meal, of basking at at least 100 degrees F to digest their meal. They also need UVB exposure, either regular outdoors sun or a UVB bulb. They don't have to have 12 hours under your UVB every single day, so if it is hot, and you want them out, take them out. Just make sure they spend some time with exposure to UVB and are warm enough to digest their food.

My dragon Ash spends at least 3 hours a day in a dog x pen with a heat lamp, because he hates his cage. We also sun outside.

What is a dog x pen?

A plastic or metal play pen for dogs and other pets that don't climb. Heheh, This is Ash escaping! He has made a sport out of it!

If they can escape, they will escape! I take out my beardie when I'm working on the computer at night, and she usually ends up falling asleep on my shoulder or in my bookshelf :) 12 to 14 hour light cycles will help your beardie keep a proper sense of time, and they'll sleep better because of a regular schedule, like humans do.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
