Right now, I have a big grin on my face. :D
You did the right thing taking Squirt in! :D
WELCOME SQUIRT!

I bet the UVB will help him almost right away! I know how you feel about the smell...I've smelled some pretty bad things in my life...mostly from my dogs cage. :puke:
I don't really know what to say about gout,(honestly I don't know what it is... ) but I hope some other people will chime in...really sorry about that.

Good luck!

I think he does feel better being all clean, finally. His colors are nearly identical to MoMo's, where he's all desert browns. Will have to see if he'll have happy colors like oranges or reds.

He closed his eyes a lot while in the tank. I'm sure he's not used to the UV light, but hopefully he'll learn to appreciate it.
I need to find something to put in the tank so he could get closer to the UV light. Right now, there's absolutely nothing in the tank but Squirt. I didn't want to place anything in there that may frighten him.

And you're only keeping him until he's well again? Well, we'll see, because I've never been able to foster and then rehome.
That is the plan, but we all know how my last foster went *ahem--MoMo-ahem*

Yes, I remember when MoMo came to you...wasn't that 2 or 3 years ago? But you're like me, you fall in love and can't give them away. That's how I ended up with 10 beardies altogether & still have 6 :D

Congratulations Gina AND congratulations Squirt. :) So happy to hear that you rescued him. He may be a little stressed right now but he HAS to feel better & smell better than he did before. Foster mom? I doubt it, how about new beardie mom? :p You know you won't be able to part with him, heck, I wouldn't either.

Do you have any just plain shelf liner you could put on the bottom of the small tank? Maybe some that doesn't have any decorations on it?

Good luck with that tank. Is it a good size? You have your work cut out for you, hope you can stomach it. If you have a mask, might be a good idea to wear it and might make it easier.

Can't wait to see pictures of him. :blob5: :blob8:

just give me time to catch up... but PM Tracie about Serrapeptase... it helps with inflammation, which I believe is what happens with gout (too much of a certain acid that gets retained... can cause swelling)... and the Serrapeptase can help with that, Fatty Liver Disease, all sorts of stuff, its basically the enzyme of the silkworm... totally safe for dragons, and they like the taste... well, at least Crashie did, we were treating him with it for the FLD for a few years.

Off now to catch up on who Squirt is!

ok, I'm caught up... LOL

Welcome Squirt... Gina will show you the spoil't beardie ropes in no time... I did read earlier when you first visited him... I was about ready to drive there... so glad you took him in. Better have your cell close to you when cleaning his old tank, you can call for help if you get gassed... LOL

Any word on treatments for gout besides the cherry something or other that Tracie mentioned?

I use Serrepetase for Lonzo & have done for years, it seems to help him mobility. Now Titan, having just gone through a biopsy to find out what is really wrong with his skin, is getting it daily. It's wonderful stuff and Tracie sells it on her website, with the dosage, too. Can't overdo it either and it has no side effects.

I had seriously considered buying hazmat-equivalent PPE, like a full-body Tyvek suit and charcoal-filtered full-face respirator, like this:

Would full-strength bleach melt nitrile gloves??

Stupid question: Can I soak the hammock and driftwood branch (the type from pet stores) in a bleach solution???

Dawn - I had waited as long as I could to take him in. Ever since I first saw him, I'd been worried about him daily. The most important thing was whether he got a new UV bulb (not until I picked him up yesterday :banghead:). It was very obvious that Squirt hadn't had any UV for a very long time, because he kept closing his eyes in the tank. The distance between the light source and him is about a foot, and it had only been used for a few months (up until Gianna moved into her big girl house), so it's still good. Wait until he gets his 30-gal tank back and the bigger UV bulb (24") is put in

ETA: The UV bulb that the mom bought was a freakin ReptiGlo 10.0. He'd been under a ReptiGlo bulb!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I do it all the time, I have the medical grade nitrile blue gloves that are made by the blind people in Indiana (cannot remember the name)... I use those when I play with bleach for my reverse dying on cloth. They hold up fine :D

A Repti-glo :banghead: Well at least he's got the right light now & he'll get much better with your loving care. Poor little guy, to be treated like that, makes you want to kick the previous owner in the you-know-where

Hello Gina,

I pm'd you about treatments. :D
How is Squirt doing? I bet he does feel better now all clean.
It will take him a bit of time to get used to the UVB light since he hasn't had a good one previously.
What temperatures are you keeping him at?
He is SO lucky you are caring for him now.

Keep us posted on him. I will check back soon.

Tracie

Stupid (and overly cautious) question: Could adeno be transferred by saliva??
I ask this because I need to know if I should purchase separate droppers for Squirt, for giving him calcium/multivitamins and water, and subsequently separate containers of calcium/multivitamins.

Oh, speaking of vitamins, should I give him liquid vitamins or wait until the gout is under control???

I've done the same for Titan, Gina, he has his own syringe for all his supplements. The others are all mixed in together, but with not knowing what's wrong with Titan yet, it's just safer that way. He's also staying in his tank now, as whatever he has (and we think it's some sort of fungus) it's travelling...had a biopsy yesterday.

I'm not sure if Adeno can be caught from saliva, just be safe. Are you having him tested for Adeno?

He's such a cutie, need pics!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
