I've been noticing today and yesterday that Pascal sometimes keeps his right eye closed.

I'm wondering if I have his UVB too close to his basking area. (Reptisun 10.0 T5 36" in Reflective Hood through Mesh)

Here's some pictures.

it's more then likely that coil uvb bulb hurting his eyes. I would highly suggest getting a t5 10.0 reptisun bulb and get rid of the compact bulb

Sorry - I could have taken a clearer picture.

The left fixture is a plain basking lamp and the right fixture is a CHE.

The UVB is behind it in a reflective hood. It's a Reptisun 10.0 T5 36" tube bulb, just over 3 months old. - not a coil. I'll take a better picture tomorrow when he's not sleeping and I can get some better light.

He has plenty of options available so he can move away from it if he wants to. He may be closing his eye due to irritation from a face shed, or he could simply be relaxing while he basks. It's common for them to do that while they're perched in a basking spot and feeling good.

Thanks - I will worry less.

I read somewhere (don't remember where) that beardies don't necessarily have the reflex to look away from overly intense UV without the bright light as a reflex or deterrent. Is this true?

The worry never goes away. I still panic constantly about my little guy. Experience helps though, for sure.

They can look away and close their eyes if they want to. Their eyelids are developed to protect their eyes from intense light from above though so that's why it's best to keep the lighting directly overhead rather than on the side of the tank at an angle. Try to imitate the sun as much as possible.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
