Nathaniel, Cierra, Castiel, Freya, Grrl; RIP GABRIEL

We never expected to get another dragon, but our neighbours next door wanted to give away Cleo, as he was called. We'd babysat him before, he's such a sweetheart. We nicknamed him Velcro because when he snuggles he never wants to go back to his viv, he hangs on as if he's made out of velcro.

So here he is. Today was his first day with us. He ate 13 supers and ate some squash, not bad for the first day he was here. He's only in a 30 gallon tank, which will be ok for now. He's 18" long but weighs only 200g. We figure he's probably 2 yrs old. Our neighbours rescued him last fall, they found him and a female (which they named Puff) on Craig's list. They were in a 30 gallon dirty tank, with sand and a huge log that took up 1/2 the space in the tank. Leo was at the bottom, he was sooooo skinny. He's gained weight, but never got the attention he deserved. I took some pics today, but will take more tomorrow. I think he remembers our place as didn't get stressed as I expected. No stress marks at all. When we let him run around the living room, he noticed our girls and immediate black beard, so his hormones are working!

He had a bath this morning, had a big poop, no smell, so not worried about parasites.

Thanks Gina, I'm really worried about Sweetie but my vet is really thorough, so I'm hoping it will be an egg that didn't drop & she'll be able to get it out of there. I'm going to try to get fecals from Didi, Leo & Rubio, Rubio's not eating much & going to bed way too early, like 3p, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had them, too. So that means washing everything in the living room, being the communal room. Oh well, better done now when it's just eggs & not full digestive tracts.

I'm to call the vet at 11a, so will update you then. I'm praying for my little girl & that all is well. After losing Roger it would kill me to lose Sweetie, too. She just has to be ok!

Hi Mary, thanks for praying for Sweetie, I slept last night but only because Lonzo was in bed with me. Seems I can't sleep unless I have a beardie sleeping next to me. So Lonzo got cuddles night & morning to help warm him up. Now he's back in the cage & I have some busywork to do, as i have to wait until 11a Pacific Time to call the vet about Sweetie. Because she & Lonzo have parasite eggs, I'm going to try to get a sample from Didi, Rubio and Leo to get examined. If they all have it, may as well make sure & get rid of it all at one time.

I'll update you later when I hear how Sweetie is.

Lonzo was a good boy, slept through the night, but this morning instead of cuddles, he wanted back in his tank. So everyone's up, that'll keep me busy. I call the vet at 11a, that's still 2 hours away. I don't want to be pessimistic, so trying to think of Sweetie in a positive light. It's wearing me out, poor baby. I sure miss her.

GOOD NEWS, Sweetie is coming home at 3p today. The vet found a bunch more eggs, so she was a bit egg-bound, so she's getting an injection this am to pass the bunch. Looks like surgery won't be necessary, but I'll know more this aft. I just let out a sigh of relief because I was thinking the worst. She & Lonzo have parasites, so I'm waiting to get a sample from Didi & Rubio, may as well know if they have parasites, too. I told the secretary I'd just drop them off & come back for meds if they're infected, too.

I can now breathe again. I just gave everyone a bath & now worms. It'll be so good to get Sweetie back.

Thanks Lori, Diane & Barbara, thanks for the hugs.

She was eggbound, I didn't see the doc, so not sure how many eggs she got out. She had to take a few xrays to make sure they were all gone. She gave her an injection that started labour & they're all out. The vet also gave me enough meds to treat everyone, as the meds are not strong & won't hurt any of them. So they'll all be done & then after a month, I'll get their fecals all checked again. So $300 later...thank goodness Roger's Soc Sec came in in error!!! It paid for the vet & feeding Eric, good deal!!! So Roger is still making sure we're all right.

I'm off to my nephews in a few minutes for an overnight, so gotta go, will talk later,

Poor Sweetie, she must be so exhausted. She'll feel very relieved to have those eggs all gone. You sure did the right thing by taking her to be checked out.

That's good that he gave you meds for all of them and that Roger's check helped with that. You're right, he's still making sure that you're all ok.

Nice that you're having a sleep over with your nephews, will give you something else to think about. Sweetie will be resting anyway.

Sweetie was really good when I picked her up, she had all her golden yellow colours on. Then I propped her up in the car in her bag so she could catch the sun coming through the sunroof, she darkened right up & just had a great time. Then we went to Eric & Tara's so she could meet Bella, who being a terrier didn't know what to make of this strange creature. Bella finally decided it was time to play with Sweetie, but Sweetie just turned her back & crawled back up on my shoulder, not very impressed with the sniffy thing at all!! It was so funny. Then got home just in time to turn everyone off & set out to my nephews for the night. Now I'm going to watch a movie & bed. I'm in no rush tomorrow am, as long as i"m home by 10a the babies will be fine for the morning.

So all is well, my trust in my vet has risen again, I'm hoping she's in no rush to retire, she's the only exotic vet in Vancouver. And she really does know her stuff. So I'll then get fecals from all five after the meds are done, they take one dose a week for 4 weeks. She thinks because it's parasite eggs (I didn't see her when I picked up Sweetie, so not sure what type of eggs they were), but she's previously treated Sweetie for parasites in 2006 & treated Issy & Angel for parasites in 2009, so she knows what she's doing. She's the same vet I took Loiosh to, she knew right away what was wrong & that she wouldn't survive, really helped me when I needed help. She also took Lonzo under her wing last year when I saved him from that virus they all got, so was pleased to see him again. She got a real kick out of Didi & Rubio when I took them there a few months ago. So she's now seen everyone but Leo, who never seems to need a vet.

I'm off now, it's getting late & I'll see how everyone is in the morning. I wanted to thank everyone for all their kindness, prayers & love, you all got me through a terrible time & I'm so grateful to all of you.
