The picture with her mouth open the hat was just balancing on there. But if you look really close on the first couple of pics you can see a clear string. It is an elastic monofillament string that used to make bracelets so it is stretchy. I just stapled it into the inside of the hat with a knot at either end so I could adjust the string enough so it wouldn't fall off. It didn't seem to bother her at all. The one with her mouth open didn't have the string and she was complaining about the flash that I wasn't using earlier. I used this picture for our family Christmas card.
