Linoleum Flooring

I put linoleum tiles in my beardies cages but it is too smooth. I was trying to figure out a way to give the floor some texture as I really like how it looks. Any ideas? I was thinking textured spray paint in clear.

Maybe if you roughed it up a bit with some sandpaper? Not sure if that would work or not but I would watch out for spray paint because of the smooth surface on the linoleum it would make it much easier for paint to chip off and then be possibly ingested by your beardie. Just a thought.

Lowes sells some REALLY nice all natural slate tile for like $3.00 per 16"x16" and they will cut it for you to.
And so easy to clean!

Check out the clearance area also...I got some 12"x12" slate tile at home depot for like $1.00 per tile!

Well I just bought the linoleum and put it in like a week ago so I'd like to keep it. I do have 1-12x12 slate tile per cage under the food bowl and some reptile carpet in a small area also so they have some things to grip onto along with their wood.

What about a thin coat of grout?

I'm just wondering if the grout would hold up without chipping off??? Not sure as I haven't worked with grout that often...maybe someone else could offer more insight.

The linoleum tiles didn't have any glue on the back, did they? Any type of adhesive can give off toxic fumes from the lights. Just wanted to make sure you knew that and that's why we recommend non-adhesive shelf liner too.

It did have adhesive but it had no smell. And they have been doing fine since I put it in there, no changes with them. I don't know how I would even get it out of their cages without ruining the bottom of the cage.

There may have been no adhesive smell before it was put in there, but the constant heat would cause the fumes. You could always put slate tiles on top of the linoleum as that will prevent those tiles themselves getting heated. The slate would also not be slippery for them to try to walk/run on.

just a little side note, just because you can't smell anything doesn't mean there are no toxins being released

Also, the beardies are in there 24/7 with no way to escape. So, by the time you notice any smell, the damage would have already been done. Would be a good idea to reconsider how you have the tank set up.

I have a 4x2x18" tall cage. Half the floor is covered in linoleum with reptile carpet on the other half, and 2 slate tiles over the linoleum for traction, the only exposed linoleum areas are under the basking logs. I have a 36" Reptisun 10.0 and a 60watt flood light bulb at one end for basking.

I imagine they are able to get better traction now with the slate tiles over top of the linoleum then, so sounds like you solved that problem. Sounds like there is only a small portion of linoleum exposed now?

No this is how I've had it set-up since I put the linoleum in I was just trying to make it so there were no slippery areas.
