Hello!

I'm looking for a UVB fluorescent tube and I'm wondering what the difference is between the Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 UVB Fluorescent Lamp and the Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 UVB T5 HO High Output Linear Lamp?

Hello, so the differences are the T8 is an older, larger bulb. It needs to be placed about 6-8" to where the BD can get to it and lasts about 6 months. The T5 is a newer, slimmer bulb to be placed within 12" to the closest spot. It could be placed on top of a screen. It puts out much more uvb and gets replaced yearly. In my opinion a much better bulb and for some reason it seems to be cheaper as well. I'm guessing probably because they both use different fixtures and a lot might still have the fixtures for the T8. They are both fine to use but the T5 has much better advantages.

So what difference does the "HO High Output Linear" part make? In other words, I now know it is better to get a T5, but should I get the T5 that has the "HO High Output Linear" or just the normal ReptiSun 10.0 T5?

I don't see a normal 10.0 T5 that doesn't have the HO part. Do you have link to this?
I see a 10.0 (normal) fluorescent tube (and it's a T8) and 10.0 compact fluorescent.

Oh I guess you're right!! I didn't even notice that.

OK, cause I was getting confused lol. I would get the T5 for sure just make sure you get the appropriate fixture that fits it and maybe a reflector on it as well depending on your set up.

Oh make sure it's the 10.0 not 5.0. You probably already know that though.

How long of a tube do you think I should get for a 40g tank that's about 3 feet long?

If you want it to set on top you can get the 34" if you want to mount it more inside I would get the 22" because the fixtures are usually 2" longer than the bulb. The rule is to at least have a bulb that is 2/3 the length of the enclosure. So either one will do.

The 22" T5 HO is 24 watts and that fixture says it is for 17 watt so it is probably not the right size and won't put out the right watt if it did manage to fit.
But yes, the 24" fixture part is right.
