Hi! I'm also thinking of getting one of these guys. I saw one at the dreaded petsmart and he was just so cute! Any advice? I heard they can be fussy eaters and I've never owned a snake before. Thanks!
I've never actually kept one, but I know many people who have, and they are pretty awesome! Small, docile, don't need high humidity levels like some snakes... I know some people who have had troubles with feeding, but I think among all species (excluding Burms) there are a good number that are fussy.
Males are happy in a 10 gallon for life. Females a 20 long is great. I use shredded aspen as their bedding since it holds their tunnels and is easy to clean. I know others use shredded paper but when that gets in the water bowl it is a big mess. The ambient temps are kept at room temp and their UTH stays between 90 - 95. I keep a small water dish in their cages until shed time where I put in a big dish that they can soak in if they feel like it. Their feeding response is really good and they are easily converted to f/t. Which I've just done a few weeks ago.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
